Today they completed classroom activities with their new teacher and classmates as well as spending time on the playground with their Year 5, soon-to-be Year 6, buddies. From observation they all seemed settled and very much part of our school community already. ELC Funding I am very pleased to announce that the ACT Block Grant Authority has offered our school community a grant of $500 000 as an ACT Government contribution towards the Early Learning Centre construction. We are most grateful for this contribution. Leadership Appointment Congratulations to Mrs Donna Victory who has been selected to the leadership position of Religious Education Coordinator at St Thomas More’s Campbell from the beginning of the 2015 school year. Donna has been a wonderful teacher here at Holy Spirit for the past 16 years. Her dedication and expertise will certainly be missed here at Holy Spirit. Our loss is St Thomas’ gain. New Teaching Staff for 2015 After a selection process I am pleased to announce that the following people have been successful in gaining a teaching position here at Holy Spirit in 2015 Mr David Camp, Miss Elizabeth Creagh and Miss Kathryn Taylor. On behalf of our community I welcome them to our school community. Semester Two Reports Reports will be mailed out to parents at the end of next week. If parents would like an interview with their child’s teacher before the end of the year please contact the front office. School Uniform Thank you for the over whelming positive response to the new sports uniform. The new sports uniform is now available for sale. A reminder to parents that there is a twelve months transition period and students can continue to wear out their old uniforms before you purchase the new one. I thank Savvy for their support in the design and development of our new uniform. I remind parents that the school uniform states mostly white joggers / sport shoes. While I know that the trend is for highly multi coloured joggers we ask you to purchase shoes that align to the uniform. The Athletes Foot at Belconnen has a selection of approved shoes that meet uniform requirements. School Fees Thank you to all the families who have already finalised their school fees for this year. 2014 school fees need to be finalised by the end of the school year. Departing Families We are aware that some families will be leaving Holy Spirit at the end of this year. To help us with staffing and class structure for 2015, we would appreciate knowing which children (apart from Year 6!) will not be returning to Holy Spirit next year. If your child/ren will not be returning, please fill out the slip and return it to school as soon as possible. Please also indicate where your child/ren will be attending school next year. This information is needed for our census details. ———————————————————————————-———— My child/ren __________________________________________will not be returning to Holy Spirit School in 2015. Reflection on Peace Most people in our world don't understand peace as a positive concept. All they know is the negative aspect of peace, which is merely the absence of trouble. The biblical concept of peace does not focus on the absence of trouble. Biblical peace is unrelated to circumstances; it is a goodness of life that is not touched by what happens on the outside. You may be in the midst of great trials and still have biblical peace. Paul said he could be content in any circumstance; and he demonstrated that he had peace even in the jail at Philippi, where he sang and remained confident that God was being gracious to him. Where does a man find the kind of peace that is not just the absence of trouble--the kind of peace that cannot be affected by trouble, danger, or sorrow? It is ironic that what is surely the most definitive discourse on peace in all of Scripture comes from the Lord Jesus on the night before He died in agony. He knew what He was facing, yet He still took time to comfort His disciples with the message of peace: Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful. (John 14:27) The peace Jesus is speaking of enables believers to remain calm in the most wildly fearful circumstances. It enables them to hush a cry, still a riot, rejoice in pain and trial, and sing in the middle of suffering. This peace is never by circumstances, but instead affects and even overrules them. A PRAYER FOR THE SECOND WEEK OF ADVENT Jesus Christ Prince of Peace, Come and journey with us. Come and show us how to live and bring strength to those who are poor. Come and live in our hearts. Amen KINDER NATIVITY The Kinder Nativity will be held on Wednesday 10 December at 12 noon in the school hall. Our Spirit Term 4 Week 8 Fabric and/or sewing help needed for a library project I would like to make some circles out of fabric for the library. These will primarily be for the Kindergarten and Year 1 classes, as a bright and colourful way to help establish routines and define places to sit. If you have any unwanted bright coloured fabric lying around (about 40cm x 40cm) or any wadding, it would be greatly appreciated if you could drop them into the library before the end of the year. The fabric can be of any type of material. Also, if you are a sewer and would like to help make some of the circles, then that would be wonderful. The materials would be cut out for you and a pattern supplied. You only need basic sewing skills for this project. I appreciate your help with this project.
