Dear Families:
Have a wonderful winter break!
I will see you back on January 5, 2015 and then Mrs.
Fay Christie will take over for me while I work as
acting District Principal for Curriculum for two
months. I will miss all of my Jackson students, staff
and families but I know you will be in good hands
with Mrs. Christie!
Thank you as well to the staff, who work tirelessly
with the students at Jackson Elementary. Have a
wonderful and safe holiday season.
Thank you for your ongoing support! Keep reading
and Merry Christmas!
Mrs. Erickson
Principal
I just want to take a moment and send a huge thank you
to all the parents and kids of Jackson Elementary. The
Lonnie/toonie drive went above what was expected and
the winter festival was a wonderful night had by all. Your
generous donations have given us the privilege of giving
a helping hand to 6 families and siblings in our Jackson
school community! The food donations will be divided
among these families as well. We could have never been
able to do this without each and every one of you.
Wishing you all a wonderful winter break.

Severe Weather Closures
In the event that bad weather causes the Abbotsford School District to close schools prior
to the start of the school day or (due to worsening weather conditions) during the school
day, the best source of information will be Abbotsford School District web site
(www.sd34.bc.ca).
As well, every effort will be made to announce school closures on the following radio
stations:
STAR FM 98.3
Country107 FM 107.1
NEWS 1130 AM
CKNW AM 980
CBC-AM 690 (91.7FM)
Once again this year, the school district will be using the automated call out system to
alert families of weather closures.
Calling the school to determine if schools are open should be your last resort.
Please note that parents always have the right to make individual decisions as to the
appropriateness of sending their children to school during periods of extreme weather.
Also note that students will most likely be going outside to play at recess and lunch if
school is in session—so dress them for the weather.
School Inquiry questions:
*Will a focus on teaching reading strategies help improve students’ reading comprehension? Will improved reading comprehension improve writing skills?
*Will a focus on retelling following a reading experience, positively affect reading comprehension by the end of grade one?
* Will an intense focus on teaching reading strategies and heightened oral discussion in small groups improve students’ comprehension of reading content (non2
fiction)?
