Champion Freight publishes monthly export reports detailing economic
statistics for sawn timber and logs. A copy of each report can be viewed

SAWNTIMBER - HS 4407
For the month of November 2014 there was
an overall increase of +5% in Timber Export
value when compared to Nov 2013, equivalent to around NZD 3.0 mln. This was lead by
increase in value of exports to US (+22%),
South Korea (+102%) and Japan (+108%),
partially offset by China, Australia, and Vietnam (-15%, -5%, and -11% respectively).
When comparing month on month (October to
November 2014), total export value increased
by 5.62 mln to a monthly total of NZD 69.7
mln. Main areas for MoM growth were the
Australia, US, South Korea, Japan and the
ASEAN Region at 17%, 23%, 220%, and 12%
respectively.
Export Value for 12 mths to Nov 2014 declined by 9% when compared to the 12 months
to Nov 2013, equivalent to NZD 70 mln. Year
on Year declines were felt across a large portion of the major markets especially China and
South Korea that were partially offset by Europe, Japan, Indonesia and Thailand.

For the month of November
there was a decline in overall
log export value when compared to the previous month
(overall total NZD 197.7 mln,
-6% in comparison to October
2014). This significant result was slightly
down on November 2013 (-6%), declines in
China and South Korea partially offset by
growth in India and Taiwan.
