Nativity
The children performed a fantastic
nativity play this week.
Well done
everyone! A special thanks to Edward
Cottingham for his amazing work with
organising the lyrics and music for the
show. We appreciate his reliability and
commitment.
“I liked dressing up as a wise man and
seeing my mum in the audience.”
(Neo, Oak)
Mrs Shirley Strong, one of our school
Governors said “I thought it was
fantastic! The singing was brilliant and
you could hear every word. Everyone was
singing their hearts out.”
“I liked dressing up as an angel.”
(Lacie, Oak)
“I liked dressing up too and doing the
actions to the songs.” (Verity, Oak)

Wonderful Winter
By Tomasz Matwijiszyn (Year 4)
We love this poem written by Tomasz.
Wonderful Winter
“I enjoyed saying my words.” (Ria, Beech)
“It was really good and I liked saying my
lines and the singing.” (Edward, Beech)
“I thought it was nice when the whole
school came together to sing the songs
really loudly and it was really touching
when the parents came to watch and the
angels and stars did their dance.”
Winter’s when:
Christmas has come
Snow blizzards rage the world
The earth is hiding in a snowy sheet
And the New Year is close
Snow lands like feathers
Fire lights the houses bright
Snow foxes roam the land
Humans wrap up warm
This rhyme could go on
But I haven’t the time.
(Ruby, Sycamore)
“I thought it was really cute when Mary
and Joseph walked around with Kai being
a donkey. I thought it was funny that
Mary didn’t want to hold Joseph’s hand!”

Community Singing, 18th December
“It all went very well and everyone really
liked it. The audience joined in with some
of the songs too.” (Sidney, Ella and Freya,
Sycamore)
The Years 5 and 6 school choir, led by
Mrs Ellie White, the choir mistress, were
invited to Chiddingly village shop to sing
Christmas carols and other songs from
the school nativity show. Their acapella
singing was well received and many of the
parents and villagers joined in with
singing ‘We wish you a Merry Christmas’
and were treated to mince pies and
refreshments by Caroline, the shop
manageress.
Caroline said “It was really lovely to have
the children in the shop and to hear them
singing so well and confidently. Hopefully
we can invite them again sometime in the
New Year.”
The children found this a confidence
boosting occasion, and gave a focus to
their work in the choir.
“It was lovely to see everyone enjoying
the singing.” (Phoebe, Sycamore)
School Council
In Term 3 the school council will be
discussing and writing up a ‘Teaching and
Learning Charter’ for the school. They
will also be drawing up a purchase plan on
how best to use funds raised by the PFCS
to develop the playground areas.
“We liked hearing the audience saying
how well we did, and I really enjoyed it!”

Partnership News
Each week we will provide details of how
the children at Chiddingly will be linking
with our partnership school, East
Hoathly, and other local schools.
Oak
East Hoathly and Chiddingly teachers are
busy planning a fun term of activities for
January based around the theme of super
heroes.
Beech
East Hoathly and Chiddingly’s topic for
Term 3 is called “Who’s in the book?”.
The children will be looking at characters
in storybooks and focussing their work
around this.
Sycamore
As part of our partnership work with
East Hoathly in Term 3, Sycamore class
will be going to the Booth Museum in
Brighton to investigate the huge range of
natural history exhibits collected by the
Victorian collector, Mr Booth.
The children will do some sketching and
consider Mr Darwin's work on evolution
as part of their science work.
In the afternoon, Sycamore class will be
applying for work 'downstairs' in the
Victorian house, Preston Manor. Prior to
going on the trip, the children will have
written applications for various jobs such
as butler, maid and footman. They will
undertake real tasks at the Manor, using
Victorian artefacts in their work, and will
be told at the end if they have been
successful in obtaining the position or
not. The children will go in costume to
help the role-play to feel even more real!
It looks to be a fabulous day.
Willow
In Term 3 our topic will be Space and we
will be building a weather station. We
will be going on a field trip to the
Herstmonceux
Observatory
Science
Centre with Years 3 and 4 children from
East Hoathly on Monday 26th January.
