Dear Parents,
I know today we had a special visitor in school, with a big red coat and a white beard
and a colourful hat. Rumour has it that ALL of our children were very well behaved
this year.
As a school we have our own little gesture that we can share with you. BISC has
taken a subscription to Educare, a company providing small online courses, all
related to education. We would like to extend the opportunity for participation to all
of our community, that is - to you our parent community.
If you would be interested please contact me directly to organise access for you.
Have a nice weekend,
Stan
Dear Parents,
Venice is a city filled with history, charm and character. It also plays host to half of
the relics of Saint Nicholas. The tale of how these got there is remarkable, as is
indeed the whole tale of the man's life.
This season, in which many people consider giving gifts, inspires me to think of
those many seasons of life that have gone by during which so many gifts have been
given, those gifts which are most durable, those gifts with no packaging to tear, no
batteries to run down, no moving parts to lose.
I hope tomorrow you all wake up with a gift nearby.

Reflection
Report writing and the need for teachers to manage an increased workload.
At the moment teachers are not only planning daily lessons, teaching, marking but also writing reports. This often
means that teachers’ workload is greatly increased. It is a time for self-evaluation and reflection on the effectiveness
of lessons and approaches to teaching and how performance can be improved. It also helps teachers with their
medium term planning which is compulsory in a British school as well as
accountability.
Accountability is a key issue and teachers are requested to promote a love of
learning and children’s intellectual curiosity and to develop understanding through
effective use of lesson time. My lesson observations continue to show that since I
see high levels of engagement and commitment to teaching and learning.
Reports will be handed out before the end of term.
Have a nice weekend and keep warm.
All the best,
Fran
“'Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house
not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse.
The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,
in hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there. “ – Clement Clark Moore
So it has been quite a painful week for me personally this week, with
countless trips to the dentist; drilling, cutting and stitching, while also
trying to keep up with work and remain positive. So if you saw me this
week not looking my best, or with half a fat/swollen face, that is the
reason for it. So it has been nice today to focus on the positive and feel
the buzz and energy being provided by the multitude of activities for
‘Santa Day’. As I write this letter, the children have been visited by ‘Santa
Claus’ and are getting ready for the afternoon’s activities. The children
are dressed festively and are happy and excited about the day’s activities.
The PTA have been working hard to organise a number of fun activities
for the children, so I am sure a great time will be had by all. I would like
to thank the parents involved for giving up their time to help organise and allow us to hold such an event.
Of course here in Poland tomorrow is St Nicholas’ Day (Dzien Świętego Mikołaja), so I’m sure many of our
families will be having some celebrations over the weekend, perhaps even receiving some presents. I’m
extending the Christmas theme tomorrow, and heading off to ‘The Nutcracker’ at the new I.C.E. Whatever
you do this weekend, have a great one.

"WINGS FOR MALAWI"
This is a fund raising effort in which the participants of this year's Poznan Malta International Drama
Festival have agreed to be involved. It is a scheme to support Chichiri School in Malawi to fund their
flights to Poznan so that this Festival, which is already a stimulating, enjoyable educational experience
can be come an even broader one.
Our first steps have been 100PLN raised from the sale of DVDs of November's Drama Showcase. If you
would like to help in any way by donating or starting a project to raise money please don't hesitate to
let me know. We only have a few months to do this!

Santa Claus has arrived and made the children even happier
The first training session
was so sucessful that on
Saturday 29th November,
another cohort of seven
IB2 students and three
members of staff
undertook First Aid
training run by the AHA
(American Heart
Association).
On Thursday Antek (Y10B) brought in his great-grandfather's medal to show us. His great-grandfather
was Henryk Jancarz and he fought in the Polish legions during WWI. Mr Jancarz won numerous medals
for bravery, including the prestigious Virtuti Militari medal, which he won for single-handedly defending a
bridge from the Soviet forces.
Y7&8 had a school trip on Tuesday - first we had a tour around the center of Krakow, with Mr Davidson
explaining many interesting things about Polish medieval history. Afterwards we went to the museum to
see the Polish legions display. It was a lot of fun for them to see and touch some Medieval items and
items from other periods too.
