RE:
Salix Administration
Please be advised that the 2014 Salix Administration program will be divided equally between the
veterinarians listed above. As I am sure you are already aware, commission rules allow the Executive
Director or the judges to designate veterinarians. Specifically, 71 IAC 8-1-5(8) reads in pertinent part:
The executive director or judges may designate certain practicing veterinarians to administer
furosemide under this rule. Such designation may be determined daily, weekly, or for any
other appropriate time period.
Attached you will find a 2014 Race Calendar. Please pick up an updated Salix and Paddock Schedule
in the Licensing Office. Additionally, Barn 9 has been designated for use in the Salix Administration
Program as the paddock for races 11-14 (please verify). The Salix Office is now located in the Paddock
near the Commission’s Blood Gas Office.
Salix for qualifiers will continue to take place at 7AM at the south end of the paddock to aid in the
movement of horses and individuals on and off of the race track prior to the start of qualifiers. In
addition to furosemide administration, duties will include being present on association grounds during
qualifiers to assist in any equine emergencies that may occur.
Dr. Keith Hollendonner has again volunteered to take the lead in overseeing the scheduling, so please
be expecting his call. Should you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
