A note from the Director.
We have had a wonderful first month of school. I want to thank
all of the families for making the new staff feel so welcome at the
school, and for being patient when things were done differently
than in the past. I know you’re used to have a monthly
newsletter, but I just felt like at the beginning of the year it was
too much to do, and I had too many things to tell you all to wait
until once a month. Now I’ll try to stick with the once a month
format, but please do watch your email because I will continue to
send updates as necessary.
A little about me.
Classroom Updates
Both Ms. Laurel and Mrs. Katie have
created their own class websites that
have been shared with their families.
You should check often to see when
they‘ve added an update. If you’re not
sure how to find their updates, our
webmasterPLACE
has linked

to the

school webpage at:
www.myimanmontessori.org
Mrs. Dania, our AQI, Guidance and Art
teacher also has a website which is
linked to the school website. Check it
out!!
If you’ve read the bio on the website, you know the basics. What I
have told you yet is that I LOVE spending time in the classroom with
the kids. I love to drop by the Pre-School/Kindergarten class and read
a book or sing a song. I enjoy seeing the math or science activities
st
nd
that the 1 and 2 graders are doing. The kids also know that I’m a
season ticket holder for the Hawkeyes, and I love to talk to them about
the football games. This month I will march with the Alumni Band on
the field at Kinnick Stadium as part of the Homecoming festivities. I
was in the Hawkeye Marching Band while a student at the University
of Iowa. I play the clarinet (not well) once a year.
I try to remember when I leave the office to go visiting to grab the
phone and take it with me, but if you ever call during school hours and
don’t get me, most likely I forgot….just leave a message and I’ll get
back to you.
My door is always open to talk to parents with concerns, joys or who
just want to visit. Stop by any time!

Other ways to find
information
In the entry way there is a board that
says “MIM Memos” at the top.
Please check there and copies of
all items sent home electronically
will be posted there as well.
Let’s be GREEN!
We will try to send most
communication electronically, so if
you don’t have the means to read it,
please let us know and we’ll send
home a “hard copy” with your child.
Thank you!

Ms. Laurel’s 1st and 2nd graders
Ms. Laurel’s 1st and 2nd grade class has been busy this
month. They worked on a science unit called “Vet

Detective” and learned all about different animals. They

made some great posters that are hanging up at the bottom
of the stairs at the school. If you haven’t had a chance to
look at them, check them out.
If you haven’t already done it, please sign up for Xtra
Math and have your child either take the placement test (if
they haven't been on before) or complete a lesson (it tells
them when they are "done for the day"). Everyone starts
with addition, but once mastery is achieved they can move
up to subtraction, multiplication, and even division when
they are ready. You should have gotten the setup
instructions in your child's folder last week introducing you
to the program. Their pin number is also taped inside of
their homework folder.
The first and second grade class will be doing an “Outdoor
Fun” basket for the International Food Fair and Auction.
Ideas were to include balls, sidewalk chalk, bubbles, a
butterfly net. Miss Laurel will be following up with more
details as the time gets closer.
Please be sure to check Ms. Laurel’s class website
regularly for pictures, newsletters, information and more!

Mrs. Katie’s Class
PreSchool ½ day Students
The Pre-Schoolers are learning all about being in school –
how to walk in line, how to raise their hand to speak, using polite
manners and serving snack to themselves. The time in the morning just
flies by!
A favorite time is outdoor play. Please be sure to send a jacket for your
child because we’ll go outside, weather permitting, daily.
PK/Kindergartners
Mrs. Katie’s afternoon PK and Kindergarten class has gotten the chance
to do a few fun cooking activities. They made cookies and applesauce
and some pumpkin and apple activities. Because of their love for
cooking activities, Mrs. Katie’s class is going to make a” Cooking Fun
Basket” for the International Food Fair and Auction. Items included can
be fun types of sprinkles, cupcake liners, different shaped pasta etc.
Mrs. Katie will follow up with more information as the time gets closer.
We were blessed to have Mrs. Karima helping us out from the beginning
of the school year, and now are happy to welcome back
Mrs. Kahn. The kids were all very excited to see her smiling face when
she returned last Friday.

MIM. She teaches Arabic, The Qur’an and Islamic Studies

She does a guidance lesson at the beginning of the week and
then bases her art lesson on the ideas taught in Guidance.
Mrs. Dania also has a website for her classes. You can find
that linked to our school website or here:
