DANCE & SOCIAL
On Wednesday 9 July, in spite of the cold weather, a good crowd turned up for revision of the Brooklyn and
thereafter the Dance; this was run by our “Smiling” Shirley Palmer. Shirley kept us on our toes, dancing the
Boogie Beat Jive, and the more serene Fascination Waltz (and many others) to beautiful music.
It was noticeable that some of the men disappeared from time to time, no doubt checking out the State of Origin
scores on the screen next door. This only gave us more room on the dance floor, which was good.
Prizes –
Barn Dance: Mal Grant, Alyson Mullane, Jim Malone & Veronica Steward
Monte Carlo: Leon Patten & Veronica Steward
Lucky Door: Richard Wong & Heather Peterson
On Wednesday 16 July, our MC for the night was our “Clive of India” Nagel. We were
again joined by our friends from Victoria, Susan & John Kennedy – otherwise known as
“Bak-2-Bak”.
Prizes –
Barn Dance: Leon Patten & Beryl Steedman – twice! Incredible when there were 90 dancers attending
Monte Carlo: David & Vivian Chiu
Lucky Door: Ju Suntiruxpong & Trevor Watson
I must say everybody had a wonderful night – Bak-2-Bak create such a great atmosphere, wish they lived closer
to Forestville, we could perhaps get them more often. A lot of their music had an infectious rock rhythm which
simply made you want to dance. When 80 year olds are doing a rock & roll jive Forestville RSL comes alive.

INDOOR BOWLS
Last Friday night was our Mid Year Dinner and we had a great roll up of present and past
bowlers. Just a tip, don’t play cards with Thomas Ng, he completely baffled us with card
tricks and magic, then President George came up with his usual “Brain Teaser”. Well done
both of you, you certainly added to the night.
Thanks to the organisers and to Kim and her staff for an excellent dinner. I’ve had no
complaints, so I assume everybody enjoyed themselves. All the ladies looked good in their party finery.
On the bowls scene (the night before), we had some good games, and some bad games. (I had a bad game)
We had over 20 bowlers again, and the winners were – (once again we had a tie) Margaret North, John Taylor &
Ray Brown tied with Trish Boyle & Dierdree Sorbara. Both teams scoring 22 shots.
The next team (with 20 shots) were – Joan MacDonald, George North and “Mr Magic” Thomas Ng. Forget the
rest (I scored 11). Tonight’s game could be another round of the F A T . I’m not sure, my fixture card has run
out.
We may not be playing next Thursday night, 24 July. Details will be announced tonight 17 July. That’s all the
results and “goss” for this week, so,
Until next week when, I’ll see ya.

Golf Humour
A golfer, playing a round by himself, is about to tee off, and a greasy little salesman runs up to him, and yells,
"Wait! Before you tee off, I have something really amazing to show you!"
The golfer, annoyed, says, "What is it"
"It's a special golf ball," says the salesman. "You can never lose it!"
"Whattaya mean," scoffs the golfer, "you can never lose it" What if you hit it into the water"
"No problem," says the salesman. "It floats, and it detects where the shore is, and spins towards it."
"Well, what if you hit it into the woods"
"Easy," says the salesman. "It emits a beeping sound, and you can find it with your eyes closed."
"Okay," says the golfer, impressed. "But what if your round goes late and it gets dark"
"No problem, sir, this golf ball glows in the dark! I'm telling you, you can never lose this golf ball!"
The golfer buys it at once. "Just one question," he says to the salesman. "Where did you get it"
"I found it."

WALKERS
SPIT JUNCTION TO CREMORNE POINT - Mon 7 July. Sixteen members of the Walkers Section with one
visitor met at Spit Junction and walked to Boronia House nearby and had morning tea in the grounds. Boronia
House is a distinctive and historic mansion, now a tea/reception room, on the north side of Military Road just
west of Spit Junction. It is one of two adjoining mansions built in Mosman in 1885 by John and James Kearey –
the other mansion was called Telopea and is not as evident as Boronia when travelling along Military Road.
From there we walked to Allan Border Oval and walked past the Border family home. We skirted the oval and
then followed Myahgah Road, Noble Street, Wolger Road, Cowles Road and Park Avenue into Reid Park to the
ferry wharf at Mosman Bay. We then followed along the eastern foreshore of Cremorne Point and had lunch in
pleasant surroundings on the point above the Cremorne Point ferry wharf. After lunch most caught the ferry to
Circular Quay and headed home from the city. This was a most enjoyable walk on a beautiful winter’s day of
about 5½ km which took about 3 hours.
