JOB DESCRIPTION
Duties:













Have overall category performance accountability for medium to high impact categories – those with a
combination of medium to high spend, organizational impact, risk, change, market dynamics, and/or
stakeholder considerations. Achieve financial, operational and market targets for assigned category.
Lead effective cross-functional teams (including business representatives, Sourcing & Contract
Management Advisors and Business Improvement Advisors) through disciplined category management
processes. Leads the team to develop and implement strategies that will meet specified objectives and
targets.
In consultation with the Category Portfolio Manager, ensures the development of compelling business
cases to support decision-making and obtain approval.
Develop and manages project plans to ensure strategies are developed and executed on schedule and
achieve projected benefits. Identifies risks and makes recommendations for mitigation.
Engage effectively and appropriately with all levels of the organization: from front-line employees to
senior management.
Write and present business plans, briefs, category management plans and other documents to
management and key internal and external stakeholders.
Develop in-depth knowledge of current/future business objectives, needs, requirements and
specifications related to their categories, and will work effectively to communicate and align these across
the organization where needed to get the best responses from the marketplace.
Assess supply chain risks and business impacts within the category and develop and recommend
solutions.
Undertake research and analysis of the category and external market to ensure an in-depth
understanding of the opportunities and constraints. Be a knowledgeable go-to-person on the category,
relied upon to provide insight and advice to the business and management and other supply chain team
members.
Facilitate consultation with diverse group of stakeholders across the organization.
Develop and manage the implementation of supplier relationship management plans. Coordinates the
management of supplier relationships across BC Hydro. Leads negotiations with suppliers. Work with
others to resolve and escalate supplier issues. Ensures contracts are being managed to meet objectives.
Monitor contract and supplier performance including KPIs, reviews with business groups and uses to
improve future performance and strategy development.
Contribute to the lessons learned and continuous improvement of category management processes as
required to ensure rigor, efficiency, provide superior service and derive more value.
Qualifications:

















University degree (Bachelors) in business, supply chain, engineering, finance or related degree or
equivalent.
Minimum of 8-10+ years related business experience or equivalent combination of education and
experience.
One or more professional designations and/or certification (eg. SCMP, APICS, PMP, P.Eng. etc).
Experience in business strategy development and implementation that has resulted in measurable
operational performance and multi-million dollar business impact.
Experience working in a business environment that is complex, with multiple stakeholders and strategic
considerations.
Knowledge of and results in multi-step, structured category management or business
improvement/planning processes.
Strong project management and planning skills, ability to set priorities and meet deadlines.
Experience leading negotiations, managing supplier relationships and contractual issues while preserving
relationships.
Change management skills including excellent interpersonal skills, communications, relationship building
and influence skills to lead cross organizational teams.
Strong research, analysis, risk assessment and business strategy skills to lead teams through complex
business issues.
Results oriented. Strong team player and ability to work independently.
Proactive, adaptable to changing needs, creative thinker.
Ability to develop innovative business solutions to deliver measurable value.
Ability to multi-task and simultaneously manage multiple projects with deadlines and deliverables.
Track record of achievement of financial, operational and market targets.
Excellent written and presentation skills.
Working knowledge of procurement processes, systems, techniques, sourcing strategy, supplier
management and contract management.
