3rd Annual Conference on CIVIL CONSTRUCTION IN HYDRO POWER June 23-224, 2014, Le Meridien, New Delhi CIVIL CONSTRUCTION IN HYDRO POWER Mission z Civil construction has a central role to play in the execution of hydro power projects. It is site-specific, hence complex. A number of features determine the design and construction of hydro power projects. These involve parameters such as geology of the site, hydrology, topography, etc. Detailed studies of hydrology, including water availability studies, flood studies and collection of historical hydrological and meteorological data are important at the feasibility report stage. z The dependence on multiple factors leads to uncertainties in the construction of hydro power projects. This causes time and cost overruns for projects under construction. Contractual issues are another factor impacting hydro power project timelines and costs. There is a need for projects to adopt sound project management and contractual practices to minimise these risks. z A key concern in recent times has been the risk of flooding of downstream areas, especially in large projects. If the risk is not mitigated, it can lead to local protests, which can stall projects. This poses challenges in project design and implementation. z Key areas in hydro power projects involving civil construction include dams and spillways, intake structures, head race channels, tail race channels, surge tanks and power houses. Technology developments are being witnessed in construction material and equipment to enhance structural strength, reduce construction costs and minimise the environmental impact. For instance, synthetic material in fibre-reinforced shotcrete is finding increased adoption in tunneling applications. The use of roller-compacted concrete in the construction of dams is also increasing as it is more economical and has a shorter construction time. z The mission of this conference is to provide a platform to discuss the key issues, challenges and best practices in civil construction of hydro power projects. The conference will focus on the design aspects, hydrology, trends in equipment and material, and best practices in project management and contract management. Target Audience The conference is targeted at: - Central public sector units - EPC companies - State power generating companies - Construction equipment manufacturers - Private power producers - Financiers and investors - Civil works contractors - State/Central government agencies - Tunnel design and construction organisations - IT and technology solution providers - Consultancy and design service providers - Etc. Organisers The conference is being organised by India Infrastructure Publishing, a company dedicated to providing information on the infrastructure sectors through magazines, newsletters, reports and conferences. The company publishes Power Line, Indian Infrastructure and Renewable Watch magazines. It also publishes a series of research reports on the infrastructure sectors including Hydro Power in India. The company publishes Power News (a weekly newsletter) and the Power Line Directory and Yearbook. Delegate Fee z The delegate fee is Rs 22,500 for one participant, Rs 37,500 for two, Rs 52,500 for three and Rs 67,500 for four. z There is a special low fee of Rs 5,000 per participant for the state electricity boards and their successor entities, regulatory authorities and academic institutions. z A service tax of 12.36 per cent is applicable on the registration fee. Distinguishing Features Our conferences and workshops are known for their focus on the dissemination of information, sharing of expertise and exchange of views. Schedules are adhered to and there is adequate time for discussion and networking. There are no long lamp-lighting ceremonies.
