Tucked away safely in storage is some of the stained
glass removed from Wineva and Bellefair buildings. Over
the past two years the “Stained Glass Group” has been
hard at work, gathering information and ideas about
creative ways in which we might use some of the glass in
the New Beach United Church.
Our Stained Glass Group visited other churches, talked
with artisans, and looked at various ways people have
incorporated stained glass into their congregations. At
our last Council meeting, the group shared some of its
findings with Council. Stay tuned for a further update on
plans in the fall!

We see a hopeful increase in giving through PAR & envelopes by
11%. Over the winter, we developed rentals, however, summer
months offer less rental income. Expenses are lower than
expected so we are cautiously optimistic. A full year will give a
stronger sense of building expenses. We are headed in the right
direction. Let’s continue the trend to address our budgeted deficit
toward financial sustainability. Ideas and strong participation by
everyone is essential.
Notes from the Garden
Spring is slowly coming and we do have some colour showing in
the church garden. The south side is much more advanced than
the east side, as it is warmer and more sheltered.
Spring is the time to put a layer of compost on the garden before
the plants are too big. We are lucky that the city gives away FREE
compost mulch. Our nearest outlet is at 400 Commissioners Street
and they are starting the giveaway program on May 24 every
Saturday from 7am to 12:30pm.
If there are any stalwart volunteers who want to lend a hand with
transporting valuable compost please contact Sally Evans. Sally will be on hand to spread compost when it
arrives. If you have never worked with compost before she can show you the ropes. Abigail is Head Garden
Gnome as contact person: [email protected]

What is a Creed?
The word 'Creed' is derived from the Latin word credo, meaning 'I believe.’ Creeds are summaries of
belief. When people choose to confirm their baptismal vows and become members of the United
Church, they often write a personal creed. We have heard some inspiring creeds over the years,
written by young people who have chosen to be confirmed at BUC.
As you read Bruce’s creed below I invite you think about what you believe. Perhaps you might even
write down what you believe, or paint it, or dance it!
Blessings, Karen
I Believe
I believe in truth as a living Reality,
not captured in theory or a creed,
but revealed to those who love;
the truth of Jesus,
the Spirit of truth,
the truth of God.
Because I believe I trust,
not blindly but open eyed and bold
as a child climbing into a mother’s lap;
the truth of Jesus,
the Spirit of truth,
the truth of God.
Because I believe I serve,
not as a slave that serves a tyrant
but like farmers reaping a harvest;
the truth of Jesus,
the Spirit of truth,
the truth of God.
