PATIENT PARTICIPATION GROUP (PPG) Minchinhampton Surgery was one of the first in the country to start its own Patient Group. The group has been running for over 20 years. It aims to involve the patients, staff and doctors in improving the services on offer, improving communication and promoting health, rather than treating sickness. Every patient is automatically a member and we do need your active assistance to continue the success. There is a notice board in the surgery entrance, or you can ask any member of staff for details. RESEARCH Our Practice takes part in medical research. The work is undertaken in partnership with universities and other organisations. Our objective is to improve all aspects of Health Care. You may be invited to take part in a research project. Your decision to accept or decline this invitation will have no affect on your usual medical care. Minchinhampton Surgery is part of the Clinical Practice Research Database (CPRD). This collects data ( diagnoses, treatments, referrals and demographics) electronically from active practices, but no data such as NHS numbers, names, addresses or postcodes are sent). Researchers will never know the identity of the patients, GPs or practices that contribute. CPRD data is used for approved, protocolised medical research including drug and device safety, risk benefit, journey of care, health services research and epidemiology. Because of our duty to maintain confidentiality, you will be asked to establish your identity before any information is given. Similarly, results will not normally be given to a third party for patients of 15 years and over. The Practice has a team of Office and Reception Staff who, apart from providing the first point of contact for patients, also provide support for all the Practice’s healthcare professionals. Morning requests for emergency appointments will be triaged by Carol Stonham, Prescribing Nurse Practitioner. Urgent problems will always be seen with the minimum of delay. In addition, a full range of services is available from the team of four practice nurses including smoking cessation and dietary advice. TEMPORARY RESIDENTS We are pleased to see visitors to the area as Temporary Residents. Such patients should make an appointment in the normal way and complete the necessary form. Overseas visitors may incur a charge if there is no NHS agreement between their home country and the UK. GP TRAINING Minchinhampton Surgery participates in the advanced training of experienced doctors who are seeking to specialise in General Practice. Attachments of the GP Registrars are usually for one year.
