Dear Parents,
The festive month has started and we are looking forward to celebrating this with you and our pupils.
The cold weather and festivities create an exciting winter atmosphere, which we all love! In this
newsletter, we would like to give you an update on current matters as well as information about
upcoming events.
Upcoming events
During the month December there are several events about which I would like to inform you:
- On the 5th of December Sinterklaas will visit our school. He will arrive at 08:45 at the main play
ground in front of the school. In order to make sure that the children have a good view to the
arrival of Sinterklaas I kindly ask you to follow the instructions from the teachers.
- On the 16th of December from 18:00 - 20:00 we are going to celebrate Christmas with the
children in school. During the children’s dinner parents can wait in the Atrium and enjoy a drink
and a snack organised by the school and the PTA. An official invitation will be sent to you by our Christmas Committee to explain in detail what is
expected. Also on the 18th of December, a Christmas assembly will take place at 09:00, which you
are welcome to attend. Please remember that Thursday the 18th of December is the last day of
school before the Holiday. We will start again on Tuesday the 6th of January 2015.
Cake Bake & Book Sale
On Wednesday the 26th of November the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) organised the second
Cake Bake & Book Sale for this school year. French books were sold for the first time this year and it
was a huge succes! The PTA raised 1000 euro’s (a record). The money will be used towards the
organisation of the Summer Party. On behalf of the ESH: Thank you PTA and thank you parents for
your contributions!
Vogelgriep - Bird Flu in The Netherlands
We would like to assure you that the chicken served in our canteen is safe for your children to eat. All
chicken that is sold in a store has passed an inspection from the NVWA (National Food and Consumer
Product Safety Authority) and this applies to all the food purchased for consumption in our canteen.
Nursery Playground
As mentioned in our last newsletters the
discussions about the Nursery playground
are still ongoing and we are going towards
a final decision. The estimated time line is
as follow: final decision regarding the
proposed quotations: mid December, start
renovations during the Christmas Holiday
and the month of January (if the weather
permits). We would like to open the
renovated play ground for the Nursery
department before the February holiday.
Class Representatives
I would like to thank all class representatives for
putting their name forward and help us in daily
school life. I would also like to inform you that Ms
Ania James is the Coordinator for the Class Reps.
Movember
During the month of November several male
teachers grew moustaches as part of the
‘Movember Month’. We are proud to announce
that the winner of the Moustache contest is Mr
Guillaume Roux from Primary and Mr Mathieu
Baudet from Secondary. The Movember Foundation funds men’s health
programmes, particularly with regard to Prostate
and Testicular Cancer as well as mental health.
More details can be found at:
http://nl.movember.com/en/
All money raised will go to the Movember
Foundation in the Netherlands. Thank you very
much for any contributions that you have given
towards this worthy cause. Also the pats on the
back and thumbs-up we have been receiving the
past few weeks have been greatly appreciated!
Best regards,
The Movember Participants
School Nurse
Through cooperation with the Centre for Youth and
Welfare (CJG) here in The Hague, a nurse has
been allocated to our school, who is based at CJG
Segbroek. During the school year parents will
receive an invitation to see the school nurse
together with their child on a specific day and time.
At the moment several of our pupils in P4 and P5
have received the invite. The focus of these
meetings is on the medical and social-emotional
well-being of your child. We kindly request you to
attend these sessions with the school nurse. If you
have any questions regarding this procedure,
please consult our school guide or contact our
support department via [email protected]
New Members of Staff
Reception: On Tuesday and Thursday Brigitte
Mahieu is working at the reception together with
Ms Birgitta Blank.
Ms Lisa Poot is working from the 1st of December
as the PA of Ms de Graaf.
Ms Paula Rufini will replace Ms Olga D’Auria as a
L1 Italian Teacher. Ms Rufini will start on the 6th of
January but will in the mean time prepare herself
together with Ms D’Auria for a good handover.
Primary children drop-off procedure
A kind reminder to all parents of children in the
Primary cycle of our school to please say goodbye
to your children on the ground floor. Because of
the increase in traffic internally in the building, we
would like to limit the amount of people on the
stairs to a minimum. We thank you for your
cooperation.
Closing Words
With December here, the festive season is
beginning. I would like to take this opportunity to
wish you and your family a wonderful Sinterklaas
and all the best for your Christmas preparations.
Kind Regards,
Eugene Voorneman
Deputy-Director Primary
