Job Description for Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Data Manager with Wake EMS
Raleigh, NC
This position is for a full-time EMS Data Manager at Wake EMS for a two-year project funded by the
Kate B. Reynolds Charitable Trust to the University of North Carolina (UNC) School of Medicine and
Wake EMS to study a novel care program for treating patients with acute behavioral health crises in
Wake County, NC. The position will be focused on programmatic and research project activities in
behavioral health care and emergency medical services, and will work closely with the leadership at
Wake EMS and UNC School of Medicine. The main responsibilities for this position include: database
development and management; linkage of multiple clinical and claims data sources; developing research
protocols; data analysis; quality control and performance improvement; and working with Wake County
EMS, UNC, and other governmental and non-governmental health agencies. The EMS Data Manager will
be located at Wake County EMS, but will be responsible for working with people and data from a variety
of different clinical disciplines, including emergency medicine, psychiatry, and community medicine.
Qualifications:

Master’s degree or equivalent experience in public health, health sciences, emergency
management, or other related field
Proficiency in Microsoft Access, SAS, and relational database management
Ability to execute multiple simultaneous tasks effectively
Strong analytical, communication and change management skills
Prior experience in research and/or clinical settings
Preferred:

Experience as an EMT or experience with emergency medicine, behavioral health, and/or
clinical data
