Principal
Dear
December 1, 2014
Vol. 15 No. 5
http://eaglepoint.browardschools.com
Parents,
I can't believe we are already in December and the
second marking period is almost over. Please make
sure your child is taking advantage
of the two
computer based resources we offer to our students, i Ready and First in Math.
Our school was just
designated as a First in Math MILLION sticker school
for math problems solved. We are one of 10 schools
among more than 5,000 schools that have reached this
goal! Keep encouraging your children to participate
and solve math problems.
This year's Mayor's Get Fit Challenge Cup will be held
on Sunday, Dec. 14th. Mayor Stermer is inviting all
students to walk with him in the 1 Mile Walk. Eagle
Point would like to have a strong representation at the
walk. If you would like to participate, please complete
the student/family registration
that went home with
students and return it back to school. The walk begins
at 9:00 a.m. on the 14th.
If you need an additional
registration
form, you can download it off of our
school website.
Have a wonderful December!
Sincerely,
Principal

Parents can promote student success by staying involved in their child’s education, offering positive support by encouraging them to relax and do their very best. It is important to communicate with your child’s teacher especially after receiving progress reports, interims and report cards. If you have any academic concerns, please make sure to contact your child’s teacher to set up a parent/teacher conference. BOX TOPS RESULTS
Great job EPE! We raised almost $1,000 in our last Box
Tops collection! This was our highest amount ever. Congratulations to the grade that brought in the most - 5th
grade! A very close second place was 2nd grade. Keep
saving them for the next collection in January. A special
treat will be given to 5th graders one day during lunch.

CLASSROOM HAPPENINGS
Fourth
As the first quarter comes to a close, we are so pleased with
how smoothly the students transitioned into fourth grade. We
are exited to be bringing “Leader in Me” habits to our students
this year. Ask your child(ren) about them.
This year the new Florida Standards in ELA and Math have
been implemented. Reading, Language Arts, Science and
Social Studies have ALL been integrated through the various
novels we've been reading, as well as our Journeys Anthology
Reading Series. We have been focusing on implicit and explicit
main ideas and point-of-view writing using 1st, 2nd and 3rd
person perspectives and finding themes in literature.
In math, we have covered multiple ways to multiply and are
delving into division in the second quarter. Keep memorizing
those multiplication facts!
We look forward to the rest of the year's journey, which will be
filled with many challenges and rewards.
Fifth
Our fifth graders are “electrified” as they commence the science
unit on Energy! They are equally excited about their upcoming
field trip to the Magic Kingdom on December 5th. And, as if
that wasn't enough, on November 21 they shared their cultural
backgrounds with their teacher and peers and brought in
“delicacies” from their heritage. Our wonderful fifth graders
continue to sharpen their saw, as we say in the language of the 7
habits, by working in groups and enjoying positive interactions
with each other as they vehemently say NO to drugs and
bullying! The fifth grade teachers are grateful for the opportunity
to teach the children and to receive the support of their parents.
Happy Holidays to all our families!
