After many months of consultation 'Safeguarding children and safer recruitment in education' was
replaced by new statutory guidance “Keeping children safe in education" in April 2014. Applicable
to all schools and FE colleges including independent schools and academies, the guidance states
that designated Child Protection staff must attend training at least every two years to update their
knowledge, skills and understanding.
Aims
To give opportunities for experienced designated staff to update their skills, knowledge and
understanding of Child Protection within the context of provision for children with additional needs
Learning Objectives
• To provide information on recent changes in national and local procedures, policy and practice
• To give opportunities to consider the impact of legislation, guidance and research - and the
additional challenges faced by specialist settings
• To explore the lessons learned from recent Serious Case Reviews
• To discuss the Ofsted implications of KCSE
This event is suitable for designated staff that have previously attended appropriate DSL training
and are now looking for an update.
To ensure the day adequately reflects your local inter-agency procedures, please indicate your
