Accommodations and Food
Campers stay in rustic cabins with 7-9 other campers and at least 2 staff members.
Most cabins do not have electricity. Showers and toilets are located in a central
bathhouse. Meals are served in a central dining hall. Campers eat meals in cabin
groups and are responsible for setting and clearing tables. We work with camp
families to accommodate many diets and food allergies; please let us know of
dietary needs in advance so we can better serve your child. Camp Wright is a nut
free facility. Two snacks are provided each day in addition to three hot meals.
Plenty of cold water and fresh fruit is always available between meals and snacks.
Camper Health, Safety and
Behavior
Staff
The Program staff is made up of college students and older
adults. Staff are interviewed, screened, selected and supervised by the Associate Director. Some high school students
assist as counselors in training. All staff members participate in a week of comprehensive staff training including CPR
and First Aid certification. Many staff also hold additional
certifications in lifeguarding, boating, archery and water
safety instruction. All staff are required to complete criminal
background checks, and fingerprinting before working with
campers. A director is onsite at all times to supervise staff,
facility, and programs. Applications for staff positions are
available on our website.
Camp Wright is licensed and inspected
by the State of Maryland and local Fire
Marshal. The kitchen and pool areas are
inspected and licensed by the Queen
Anne’s County Health Department. A
licensed nurse, EMT or physician is on
site 24 hours a day during overnight
camp. Local physicians and hospitals are
available for urgent medical care. All
program staff are certified in First Aid
and CPR. Campers are expected to
conduct themselves in a manner that is
conducive to our programming, mission
and goals. Behavior that is deemed
dangerous, inappropriate, or
unmanageable by the Administrative
Staff is grounds for dismissal from camp.
Parents will be
contacted as
needed.
Spiritual Life at
Camp Wright
American Camp Association
The American Camp Association (ACA) seeks to enhance quality and develop
professional practices in the camping industry. Accreditation is an educational
process of self examination and peer review. Camp owners and operators agree to
uphold a stringent code of camp management practices. Camp Wright was first
accredited by the ACA in 1994. At least once every three years, a team of camping
professionals visits our program and review our practices with standards in the
industry.
We are proud to take part in this process and to have our standards meet or
exceed the ACA standards. Our most recent visit occurred in 2012 and we are
excited to report another successful review.
We begin and end
each day with song, stories, reflection,
prayer and time together to help us live
with and care for one another and the
world God created around us. Time each
day is designated for our Christian Education program, called Serendipity.
Through art, activities, games, stories
and music we grow in our ability to love
our neighbors as ourselves as Jesus
taught. We have a camp chaplain who
designs our program each summer. We
end each session with a worship service
in our outdoor chapel. Parents and
families are invited to join us at this service on Check Out Day.

Traditional One Week Sessions
Traditional RC 1, 2, 3, & 4
For campers who are 7-14 years old.
Four seven-day sessions throughout the summer provide a
week of fun and friendship in a positive and encouraging
Christian community. A variety of activities is offered each
morning and afternoon—campers choose their own
adventure: sports, boating, drama, dance, archery, arts &
crafts and others! Evenings are reserved for fun large
group events such as capture the flag, international
carnival, “Camp Wright Idol,” or Gold Rush. Traditional
Blue and White competitions round out these sessions.
Senior High Leadership
For campers who have completed
grades 9-11
For many, Senior High Leadership is the first step
in the journey to becoming a Camp Wright staff
member. This session helps develop skills
important for work at camp, class office, peer
mediation and other leadership roles. A trip to a
Ropes Course for teambuilding, community
service and planning a program for our Ready, Set,
Campers allow SHL participants to practice
leadership in a supportive, fun environment.
Mini Camps!
For campers who are 6-10 years old.
Mini Sessions are a great way for younger campers to
get introduced to the traditions and fun of our Resident
Camp program. Campers will enjoy three days and
two nights of fun at CW, swimming, crafts, nature,
boating and more!
Senior High Adventure
For campers who have
completed 9-11th grades
Ready, Set, Camp!
For Campers having completed
grades 1-5
Night Owl Camp
For campers who have
completed grades 5-7
We kick off our summer with a session
specifically designed with younger
campers in mind. Five days of sports,
games, crafts, swimming, boating and
more! Ready, Set, Camp packs all the fun
of traditional camp into a smaller
package—perfect for a first time camper
or a returner who wants a shorter CW
experience.
During Night Owl Camp, campers
experience all the fun of a traditional
camp session in a whole new way. By
staying up late and sleeping in each
morning, campers will explore wonders of our natural world at night.
Cookouts, sports, night hikes, evening
paddles, bonfires, swimming, stargazing, and a special off site trip make
this session a hoot for our Night Owls.
Christmas Session,
For campers who are 7-14
Christmas at Camp Wright is one of
our oldest traditions! During this
session, campers will enjoy all the fun
of our weeklong sessions and
celebrate Christmas in July.
Highlights of this session include a late
night vespers service, a visit from
Santa, Gold Rush and many other fun
camp Christmas activities. Don’t
forget your Santa hat!
This week long adventure
session will provide campers
with experiences that go
beyond those of a traditional
camp experience. This session
includes several days of backpacking , whitewater kayaking,
zip lining and more. Through
these activities in the great
outdoors, journaling and
working together, campers will
be put in leadership roles, and
be exposed to new experiences,
ultimately discovering more
about themselves. Join us on
this adventure!
Senior Camp
For campers who have completed
grades 6-10
Nature Camp
For campers who have
completed grades 3-6
Adventure Camp
For campers who have
completed grades 7-9
A flexible schedule, small group discussions,
explorations of faith, and activities geared
towards older campers make this session a
perfect balance of fun and growth. Mornings
are devoted to traditional camp activities;
afternoons are for large group activities
including some Blue and White events;
evenings are spent in small groups where we
have a chance to connect with others and share
ideas, opinions and inspiration. Senior Camp
is an empowering and invigorating session.
Nature Campers explore the ecology of
the Chesapeake Bay from Central
Maryland to Assateague Island,
examining natural surroundings,
learning about conservation, boating,
swimming and having a blast along
the way. Campers should come
prepared to get dirty, get wet, learn a
lot and make tons of new friends.
Nature camp includes off site trips to
forests and waterways in and around
Maryland.
Adventure Camp is now jam packed with
exciting adventures. After learning basic
camping and outdoor living skills, Adventurers will travel to Western Maryland
to practice in the great outdoors. A multiday backpacking trip, whitewater rafting,
and hiking are all part of this exciting session. Adventure campers will return to
camp in time for the end of session banquet and dance—a great way to celebrate
accomplishment and share it with new
and old friends!
