The Great Gracie Closet
Clean Out went well.
Seven trash bags (not
kitchen-size bags, but the
giant yard bags) and five
donation boxes of toys and
clothes later it is finished.
We were able to give her a
workspace large enough for
items like her laptop,
Silhouette, and all of her
other crafting projects.
She also has a newly
revamped cork board that
she painted. The best part
is, we didn’t have to buy
anything. We already had
the shelving from last year’s
remodel and just turned into
a desk and as I mentioned,
Gracie repainted an old
cork board. The closet clean
out success and the warmer
temps have given me spring
fever.
According to Courtney
Soinski’s blog on The Real
Estate Book this spring’s
trends are filled with bright
colors, beautiful bouquets,
light and space. She says a
hot trend this spring is
keeping the room light and
airy by the use of color.
Think of the outdoors and
the beautiful flowers
popping up in blues and
yellows. If you want to go a
little brighter try placing
throw pillows on your sofa
with pops of turquoise and
red.
The next trend she
suggests is something we’ve
been doing for a while in
this part of the country.
We’ve always appreciated
the natural beauty and
warmth of wood. This
season the rest of the design
community is catching on
by installing engineered
wood
ceilings
and
wainscoting. (Shhhh ...
don’t tell Donnie, but this is
another project. I really
want to change the siding
on my back patio’s ceiling
to wood). Designers are
incorporating items such as
Decorating Wisely
Glenda Wise
wood-textured textiles,
tree-printed wallpapers and
embossed soaps that have
the appearance of wood.
In addition to color, 2014
is filled with texture.
Interest can be added to
your home with high-gloss
finishes, metallic, sequins
and mirrors. Textured tile
walls are visually pleasing
to the eye and add a highend look. Think about the
bathrooms in the Donald
W. Reynolds Center and the
new library. The mosaic
tiles add interest and beauty
when paired with the
painted walls. The use of manipulated
metals has been increasing
in popularity for several
years now and it will
continue to grow. The use
of copper, pewter and nickel
is popular in sink basins,
ceiling tiles and light
fixtures. Adding just a few little
changes this spring will
revitalize and refresh your
home from the long winter.

Faith
Don’t cheat yourself, read the word of God
I went to one of my book
shelves the other day and
pulled out two books. “For
Whom The Bell Tolls” by
Hemingway and “The
Brothers Grimm Complete
Fairy Tales.” Two books
whose total pages are the
huge sum of 1,129. Have
you ever known anyone
who hasn’t read more than
two books in a year? I then
pulled out my mom’s old
Bible and it has 1,246 pages,
a few more but it also has
pictures and a place to write
death and births, maps and
such.
I have been wondering
why people don’t read the
Bible. I know there are
more than 1,000 pages and
that would come to less
than three pages a day for a
year. Can you imagine taking a year to read a really
interesting book? Confining
yourself to less than three
pages a day and wondering
if you can keep the continuity of the content from day
to day?
It seems so foreign to
me. I can’t count the times
that I have read a good
book in a day or less because
I just couldn’t put it down.
We in the ministry may be
responsible for the lethargy
in the reading habits of our
parishioners, by promoting
this ridiculous plan for reading the Bible.
Hemingway was a great
writer and there are so many
good and great writers that
can hold our attention. I

Upcoming Events
Bokoshe Community Fellowship
Breakfast
The Bokoshe Community Fellowship Breakfast will
celebrating the beginning of its 17th year at 8 a.m.
Saturday, March 1, in the Fellowship Hall of Bokoshe
United Methodist Church.
The speaker will be the Rev. Ron Miller, pastor of
Victory Worship Center in Quinton.
Miller is Bokoshe-raised by his parents, Milton and
Ann Miller, longtime local residents.
He and his wife, Tracey, have four children, three
boys and one girl.
The breakfast is non-demonitional and all men,
women and children are welcome.
Verse of the Day
The commandments, “Do not commit adultery,” “Do not murder,” “Do not steal,” “Do not
covet,” and whatever other commandment there
may be, are summed up in this one rule: “Love
your neighbor as yourself.” Love does no harm
to its neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment
of the law.

ing many bookcases filled
with books, most of which I
have read. I would love to
have a penny for every page
I read while in college, too.
So we as humans love to
read, we read the local and
national newspapers, at
least three or four magazines a month, Sunday
School lessons and mail.
What it all boils down to is
we read what we are interested in.
I have heard the excuse, I
can’t get past the begots
and begats. Skip them. Read
the rest and you will come
back to them because you
will want to check the blood
line of Jesus as many have
before you.
When America was
young the Bible was the
only text book for quite a
while. Wow, can you let the
little first and second grade
kids do what you can’t do?
How could anyone not read
the gospel of John and still
claim to understand salvation? How could you stop
when you begin to read the
Psalms and the praise of
God wells up in your spirit?
Some books are just that
— words on paper. Even
books that are supposed to
be inspired such as the

not feel the witness of the
spirit of God as the words
come from the paper. Then
take one book of the Bible
and get in a quiet place,
read and let God witness to
you of the truthfulness of
the Holy Bible. That book
will turn into your best

Forget all the things you

They will when you realize
how much you have been
missing. The Lord said to
hide his word in our hearts
so we wouldn’t sin against
him. That’s his advice and I
humbly invite you to do
what he said. You will never

Sharing what touches your heart
Sometimes I read something that touches my heart so
much that I want to share it with everyone. I pray you
enjoy this article as much as I did.
To My Child Just for Today
Just for this morning I am going to smile when I see
your face and laugh when I feel like crying.
Just for this morning I am going to let you wake up
softly in your pj’s and hold you until you are ready to
stir.
Just for this morning I am going to let you choose what
you want to wear and tell you how beautiful you are.
Just for this morning I am going to step over the laundry, pick you up and and take you to the park to play.
Just for this morning I will leave the dishes in the sink
and let you teach me how to put that puzzle together.
Just for this afternoon I will turn off the phone and computer to sit with you in the yard blowing bubbles.
Just for this afternoon I will not yell once, not even a
tiny grumble if you scream and whine and if the ice cream
truck comes by, I will buy you the ice cream cone of your
choice.
Just for this afternoon I won’t worry about what you are
going to be when you grow up.
Just for this afternoon I will let you help me make cookies and I won’t stand over you trying to fix things.
Just for this afternoon, I will take you to McDonald’s
and buy us both a happy meal so you can have two toys.
Just for this evening I will hold you in my arms and tell
you the story of when you were born and how much you
are wanted and how much we love you.
Send all the bouquets upstairs
Dr. Kenneth Wuest, who taught Greek, was my favorite
college professor because he always brought something
beyond the day’s lesson to the classroom to inspire his
students, some insight that could change the day and leave
a lasting and enlightening impression. He called these day
brighteners “golden nuggets” and authored a book by that
title, a copy of which still occupies a prominent place in
my library.
In addition to his stimulating nuggets of truth drawn
from the Greek New Testament, Wuest frequently quoted
what must have been his favorite sage advice for preventing pride to grow due to too many compliments over our
accomplishments: “Send all the bouquets upstairs.”
Joe Gibbs was head coach of the Washington Redskins
from 1981 to 1992. During that time, the Redskins won
three Super Bowls, played in three NFC Championships,
won four division titles and made six playoff appearances.
In the book, “The Greatest Lesson I’ve Ever Learned,” by
Bill and Vonette Bright, Gibbs tells about learning that
money, position and power are not important compared to
relationships. During one of those winning football seasons he awoke thinking about how important he was. Then
his wife reminded him to pick up his socks and bathrobe
and started telling about a problem with one of their children.
“Why is she bothering me with this?” Joe thought.
“After all, I’m an important guy on the verge of winning
the NFC championship.” So he stormed out of the house,
slammed the door and left in a huff, but on his way to work
this proud coach suddenly realized the price of his pride.
Joe had developed a habit of praying in his car on the
way to work and as he talked to the Lord the truth of what
he had done grabbed him, prompting, in his words, the
following conclusions: “When I leave this earth, I thought,
Love from Latham

it will not be the football games or the fact that I am the
head coach of the Washington Redskins that will count.
All of that will wind up in an ashtray some day. But the
influence I have on my wife and two children, on those
I’ve worked with or helped, and the investments I’ve made
in someone else’s life will last forever.”
Upon arriving at work, Joe called home and apologized
to his wife. Pride had tripped him up, but humility lifted
him up. “I’m sorry for the way I acted,” he said, assuring
her of his love for her and their children.
Wise Solomon said pride goes before destruction and a
haughty spirit before a fall — Proverbs 16:18, adding a
man’s pride will bring him low.
Solomon was right.
Ask Joe.
How can we avoid pride’s pitfalls? By remembering
that every gift, talent and ability we have is given to us by
the Lord. Whatever we have achieved is the result of his
goodness and grace. If we have performed well in any area
of life it is because he has made it possible. So when praise
and recognition come our way because of what others see
as our accomplishments, it’s time to send all the bouquets
upstairs.

Testimonial Talk
Linda Schmuck
Just for this evening, I will let you splash as much as
you want in the bathtub and not get angry.
Just for the evening I will let you stay up late to sit on
the porch with me to count all the stars.
Just for this evening, I will snuggle beside you and miss
all my favorite TV shows to just listen to you talk all you
want.
Just for this evening I will run my fingers through your
hair as you pray and I will simply be grateful that God has
given me the greatest gift ever given.
Tonight I will pray for all the mothers and fathers
searching for their missing children, the mothers and
fathers visiting their children graves instead of their bedrooms, and the mothers and fathers who are sitting in
hospital rooms watching their children suffer while silently screaming inside.
Tonight when I kiss you goodnight, I will hold you a
little tighter and a little longer and it is then that I will
thank God for you and ask him for nothing else except for
one more day.

Being blessed
A Word of
Encouragement
Matthew Sebo
The word “Blessed” that Jesus used in the Matthew
chapter 5 is translated from a word meaning “supremely
blest, fortunate, well off and happy.” All of us desire to be
“blessed” and Jesus explains in this chapter how to be
blessed.
Jesus explains in verse 9 that “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called the children of God.” God
greatly values peace. In several passages he is known as
the God of peace, and is the author of peace and not of
confusion.
God also values peace because he is righteous and the
fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make
peace.
James 3 teaches us that where strife is there is confusion
and every evil work. God is so opposed to discord that
sowing discord is listed as one of the seven deadly sins
that are an abomination to God. With all this in mind,
peace and unity among those of us who call Jesus Lord
and savior should be a top priority.
The key to peace is in the word Jesus used, “peacemakers.” We generally think of peace keeping not peace making. Peacekeeping is simply keeping what you already
have, but peacemaking is making something that is not
initially present.
If we really want to be supremely blessed, fortunate,
well off and happy, we must endeavor to keep the unity of
the spirit in the bond of peace. Many times that means
combating our own flesh and pride and bringing words
and actions of peace into play even though those around us
may not be doing the same.
Division, contention and discord is easy to accomplish,
just let human nature take over. But if you want to be
“blessed” let God’s divine nature guide you to make peace
even where there is none.
