British Deaf Association: Election of BDA Chair
British Deaf Association: Election of BDA Chair
Agnes Dyab
Terry Riley
I have been on the board of the BDA for 8 years, recently becoming the ViceChair.
Chair BDA 6 yrs
BDA voluntary work
I worked closely with BDA to organise the annual conference since 2006.
BDA Branch Sec, Chair of NWRC, Executive Council 1984-2000, EUD / WFD
Boards
I have experience of creating the BSL and Deaf Studies curriculum for all ages
with the co-operation of other Deaf schools. This involved reporting back to
the Executive Board of Blanche Neville and Sign Bilingualism Consortium and
making sure any changes and feedback were given.
My experience in chairing the SCOPE management committee has provided me with plenty
high level management knowledge. I also mentor the special interest group, BDA Youth, and
supported GLDA AGM and elections .
Most recently I originated the idea for Colin Allen to give a talk about Human Rights at the local
Deaf club and supported Dr Sarah Battersby with the Legal status of BSL and ISL discussion
paper in Scotland and London.
I am extremely approachable when networking within the Deaf community and professionals.
Supported BDA by creating the Communication Team to be more outreach in their approach to
the Deaf community.
I was involved with the setting up of the BDA’s Vision, Mission and Values and so have not only
helped formulate this but seen it work in practice.
I feel I have learnt and grown with my experience as the Vice-Chair and now feel in a strong
position to put this great experience towards being the Chair and have the key criteria expected
from me to put my nomination forward.
