Yaping Gao, Ed.D. Since 2007, Yaping Gao, Ed.D. has served as District Director of Instructional Design at Broward College, Ft Lauderdale, Florida, and reports to the Campus President, Broward College Online – Florida’s Global Campus. Dr. Gao has been active with Quality Matters since its beginning in 2003. She served on QM’s Legacy Committee, which oversaw and guided the work of the Higher Education, Fifth Edition, 2014 Rubric Committee and the 2011-2013 Higher Education Rubric Revision Committee. Dr. Gao has served as Broward College’s QM Coordinator since 2008, leading the college-wide implementation of QM and overseeing the ongoing quality assurance in online and blended course design. She led the development and implementation “BC Quality Standards for Course Design”, which serves as the guide for the design, development, sign-off and delivery of all online and blended courses at Broward College. Dr. Gao is also a QM-Certified Master Reviewer and has served on numerous course reviews for various QM institutions. Dr. Gao also serves as liaison for Broward College’s multiple international centers and affiliates relating to e-learning services and support, which include Vietnam, Sri Lanka, Ecuador, Singapore, Peru, and China, among others. During the recent SACS accreditation and reconfirmation, Dr. Gao served in the SACS Faculty Reconfirmation Committee with focus on faculty credentialing and professional development. She also serves as Broward College's institutional representative for Quality Matters, Online Learning Consortium (formally Sloan-C), Instructional Technology Council, Florida's Orange Grove repository and other organizations. In 2013, Dr. Gao led the first MOOC initiative (College Foundations – Reading, Writing & Math) at Broward College, which has since served about 10,000 students from all over the world. Dr. Gao earned her doctoral degree from Baylor University in 2000 and her Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees from Shanghai International Studies University, Shanghai, China.
