HONG KONG PUBLIC SPACE INITIATIVE
EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE (2014-15) RECRUITMENT
A. INTRODUCTION & BAISC REQUIREMENTS
 Open to all Hong Kong residents who have completed secondary school education.
Undergraduate students, graduate students, and working professionals are all welcome.
 Open to people from all backgrounds.
 All are non-paid positions yet you will be joining a group of passionate people who
aspire to accomplish great things in Hong Kong.
 Term is one year (Aug 2014 – Aug 2015). Your title will be “Project Manager”.
 You are advised to talk to any of the existing Executive Committee members on our
working culture, commitment and level of “fun”. Our team list is attached at the back.
B. APPLICATION & SELECTION TIMELINE
 We will select candidates based on level of commitment, passion and ability to work in
teams. Prior experience is not a major concern.

All candidates must attend so that we can introduce HKPSI and our
work. It would also be a great opportunity for you to evaluate whether
this is the right place you would like to spend time on. We will also
answer questions and address any concerns you might have.

training day designed to get yourself familiarized with the concepts of
public space and HKPSI’s working guidelines etc.

C. JOB DESCRIPTIONS & SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS
I. Think Tank 智庫
Work scope
 To get involved in the planning of a one-year research & engagement program that will
result in a new park proposal to be considered by the government
 To write/collect articles on relevant topics regularly
Requirements
 Relevant discipline (e.g. urban planning / geography / architecture / sociology etc.)
preferred but not necessary
 Experience in landscape architecture a big plus
II. Community Engagement Committee 社區聯繫委員會
Work scope
 To organize events that engage major stakeholders and the public, e.g. Hong Kong Public
Space Symposium and place-making workshops etc
 To collaborate with other external groups to organize public engagement activities, such
as the Hong Kong Public Space Awards, photo contest, and/or participate in other
large-scale events, such as deTour, Very Hong Kong etc.
Requirements
 Suitable for candidates with strong interpersonal skills and organization abilities.
 Relevant event planning and management experience a big plus
III. Public Space Database Committee 公共空間資料庫籌委會
Work scope
 To build up a database that includes profiles of all major public spaces for public access
and comments
 To liaise with external parties (e.g. sponsors for funding, software developer for system
engineering and other NGOs for marketing)
Requirements
 Some basic IT knowledge a plus but not necessary
 Suitable for people interested in auditing public spaces and reaching out to external
parties

IV. Education Committee 教育委員會
Work scope
 To organize education activities for secondary school students, such as learning programs,
competitions, talks, workshops and field trips
 To prepare teaching and learning materials such as compiling case studies, designing
games to test concepts etc.
 To liaise with schools on design and distribution of teaching toolkits
Requirements
 Current graduate or undergraduate students preferred but not necessary
 May need to attend activities in weekdays if required.
 Candidates should be good at soliciting information from various sources
 Suitable for candidates dedicated to education and teaching
V. Creative Lab 創意實驗室
Work scope
 This is a newly created committee that will plan and manage initiatives to achieve
marketing, branding and public relations purposes for HKPSI. Examples include “Public
Space Day”, “#HappyHK” social media campaign etc.
Requirements
 Successful candidates should have experience in at least one of the following areas:
o Marketing / branding / public relations / creative media / IT / design / art /
event planning / filming / photography / video production / mass media /
typesetting / software development / website management
 Portfolio might be required at the interview stage
VI. Honorary Secretary 榮譽秘書
Work scope
 To deal with all administration work including constitution documentation,
charity/society registration, formulation of operating procedure and internal policies,
management of contact lists, archive of event records
 To prepare minutes for board meetings
Requirements
 Candidates expected to be detail-minded
 Suitable for candidates without relevant background or skill set yet would like to
contribute to HKPSI
