New Grade 5 rep Naomi Little-Smith introduced herself to the group. Sharon Gilblin will be leaving ISA in December and Naomi will then take over her role. 2. PTA liaison Amrita gave an update on the Halloween Story telling for K-1 on Thursday 30th October, PTA need volunteers to help sign in and sign out children coming along to the event. 3. Feedback from the PAC parent coffees PS/PK: Around 30 people attended. Both Rupali and Matthew, the parent reps for PS and PK, think it is better to do their coffee sessions together. The main topic was internet for EC children. Parents are wondering whether their children should they be on internet at that age? Having a session on this topic could be interesting for parents. Kindergarten : Amrita reported that there was not as high a turn out as she’d expected. She informed that the main topic of discussion was playground issues. She also informed that a concern was raised that class blogs are not updated as regularly across all classes. Grade 1: Sharon was very happy with her session. She explained that the main topic of discussion was the Language Academy. Parents would like to have more information at a later stage when their children are taking those lessons. Another issue of note was the internet. (continued) Discussion Grade 2: Mercedes reported that it had been an easy-going coffee session. Swimming wasn’t a hot topic as it was thought it might be due to the changes made in the programme. Grade 3 : Kristen reported that it had been a very well-attended session with a nicely integrated group of parents. The rep set up a panel with different people (Tracey Winstone, Susan Loban, Carolyn Lacey and Pepijn van den Toorn) which made the session very interesting. Grade 4 : Arlien reported that 35 to 40 people attended the session. Grade 4 coordinator and Warren Apel were attending as well. Apps, internet safety were discussed during this session. Grade 5 : Naomi reported that about 40 people attended. Sharon had arrange for a guest speaker, Warren Apel, who talked about social media. Lots of information was given regarding this topic. Other topics raised was French as an additional language in LS. The parent who raised the question was concerned about the continuity of the programme in French from Lower School to Upper School. This led to a further question from another parents about why French is the language offered as an alternative to Dutch. New Playground areas The group took a tour of all playground areas. Discussion was focused on uses of the different spaces and on facilitation of more effective and safe after school supervision of children using the playground. 6. Book Club Amrita made a comment about the Book Club for parents that Denise Granai was offering and suggesting that Denise also run a session with teachers too. 8.
