Circa, key speaker at the BioVale biotechnology
innovation cluster event in Yorkshire
York, UK, 15.07.2014 – Building the Bioeconomy, an event in York organised
for the signing of the Anglo-French collaboration between Biovale (UK) and
IAR (France), invited Circa to be a guest speaker to present on growth
opportunities from harnessing research in the sector.
Circa, represented by CEO Tony Duncan, shared insights into the commercial
opportunities provided by waste non-food cellulose in the growth of bio-based
chemicals. Circa’s proprietary technology for the manufacture of their green
platform chemical, Levoglucosenone, is enabling researchers around the
world to identify new, more sustainable chemicals for industry.
Circa’s product development partnerships with University of York Green
Chemistry Centre of Excellence has delivered a novel new solvent being
trialed with major pharmaceuticals in Europe and the US; and with
AgroParisTech, a new patented process for production of a specialty polymer
building block.
This developing portfolio of non-food, non-petrochemical, based products is placing Circa at the
forefront of the “bio” industry. The EU’s Bioeconomy is estimated to have €2 trillion turnover and
account for over 22 million jobs. It is creating major new markets and providing a source of
sustainable, low-carbon economic growth.
