The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga The Honors College Innovations in Honors Program Application Instructions Innovations in Honors (IIH) is designed for current UTC students and transfer students at the sophomore and junior level. Its problem-based, community-embedded approach challenges students to develop critical thinking, applied creativity, and collaborative innovation and leadership. Using the UTC campus and the city of Chattanooga as active learning laboratories, students work closely with faculty members and civic partners in a two-semester Innovation Lab course to tackle real-world problems. In addition, IIH students also complete one of the Honors College's Brock Scholars seminars, a study abroad experience, or other approved experiential learning activity, and complete either a Departmental Honors thesis or an Honors College thesis. Eligible students must have completed at least 12 hours of graded college credit to apply to IIH; at the time of admission, students must have completed 24 hours of graded college credit with a 3.25 or better cumulative GPA. After admission to the IIH Program, students must maintain a 3.25 cumulative GPA to remain in good standing. Complete applications for Fall 2015 are due no later than February 1, 2015. A complete Innovations in Honors application includes the following items: (note that each item must be in a separate digital file in one of the following formats: .doc, .docx, .pdf) 1. The Innovations in Honors application form (this is a pdf file that you can complete electronically; requires Adobe Acrobat Reader). 2. A résumé of your college-level extracurricular activities, community service, honors and awards. Please provide details of positions held in campus or community organizations. 3. A letter from a college instructor or professional supervisor who can personally evaluate your academic performance or professional fitness (to be submitted by the letter writer). 4. An original piece of writing (prescribed topic below). The email's subject line should use the following format: "FirstName LastName IIH Application" Applicants should instruct their letter writers to submit their letters via email to [email protected]. Letter must be sent from an .edu email account using the following subject line format: "FirstName LastName IIH Evaluation" Applications will be evaluated by members of the Honors College Advisory Committee. Applicants will be informed of their status by early March, in time to register for the Innovation Lab I course for Fall 2015.
