*****FIRST QUARTER HONOR ROLL*****
Black Hawk Middle School recognizes excellence in school
performance. One effort to do so is a formalized Honor Roll which is
calculated at the end of each quarter’s grade reporting period. To be
placed on the Honor Roll, a student must earn a Grade Point Average
(GPA) of 3.2 or higher. In addition, High Honor Roll can be achieved
by obtaining a 3.6 or higher GPA.

Infinite Campus App
Many families are finding the Infinite Campus app a helpful tool. You can set it up to
receive alerts when new assignments are entered or use it to check that your student
made it to class on time. Information about the app is at this link on the MMSD

School Improvement Plan Goals
Focus on Family Engagement
I’m thankful for all of you who could make it to our Parent-Teacher Conferences over
the last two weeks. I’m especially grateful for Kelli Semrau, our after school
coordinator, and our Family Engagement Team, who organized fun activities for our
kids and families, including a community dinner on Tuesday. One of our School
Improvement Goals is to create more opportunities for evening activities at school,
and improve our two-way communication with you. We want to share all the good
things happening at Black Hawk, and listen to your questions and concerns. You may
always reach me via email at [email protected], or at 204-4361.
Black Hawk Middle School Endowment Makes Grants Possible
The Foundation for Madison’s Public Schools’ School Endowments provide each school
with annual income that is used to fund creative and innovative programs and projects
that are not funded within the core school budget. Recently 49 schools were awarded
grants totaling $78,290.
This year Black Hawk Middle School had $967.00 in endowment income available to use
to make grants for imaginative programs and projects that propel student learning which
can’t currently be funded through the core school budget.
Our grants committee decided to fund the following projects using the available
endowment income:
Funds will be used to purchase sensory items for student use in the classroom (Theraputty, chewy items, sorting materials) along with four iPod Touch devices to be used to
quickly collect student data on interventions. As we have more students engaged in
interventions, we need quick, efficient, and effective ways to collect data that tells us how
students respond to the intervention. This project will support our Mobile Intervention
Team and Cross Categorical teachers to support students in the classroom with sensory
items, and document interventions on a mobile device using google documents (google
forms and google spreadsheets).
If you have any questions about the School Endowments, please contact Mary Bartzen at
237-7723 or [email protected]. To donate to our school’s endowment, visit the
Foundation for Madison’s Public Schools’ website at www.fmps.org.
