HEADTEACHER’S NEWS
Mr Smith’s absence
As many of you are aware, Mr Smith will be
absent until after Christmas due to knee
surgery. In his absence, it is my pleasure to
take up the post of Acting Headteacher. I am
sure you will all join me in wishing Mr Smith a
speedy recovery.
SPRD Appointments
Your son/daughter should have brought
home a letter detailing their SPRD
appointment for Wednesday 12th November.
Please bring with you their last report, and
their student planner. All students should
attend in full school uniform with at least one
parent/carer. Please arrive five minutes
before your appointment time. Please can
parents park in the back playground via the
entrance in Gale Street. May I take this
opportunity to thank all parents and carers in
advance for their support on this very
ACHIEVE Days
The photographs above are of our recent
ACHIEVE Days. As you will be aware, before
half term we completed our first phase of the
ACHIEVE Days programme, which took our
students both abroad and to a number of
local museums, exhibitions and experiences.
One of the key principles that underpins the
work we do at JRCS is to offer our students
as many possibilities to extend their learning
outside the classroom as possible. Some of
the locations visited by students were as far
afield as the WWI battlefields of Belgium and
Colchester Zoo. New this year was a Year 8
trip to the Science Museum, organised by
Miss Hunnisett, where students were able to
engage in the exciting world of rocket
technology and the more personal interactive
activities in the ‘Who am I?’ area.

Aspiration Cohort Careers Evening for
Years 9 -13
Your son/daughter should have brought
home a letter on Monday describing the
upcoming Aspiration Cohort Careers Evening
on Tuesday 18th November. Please discuss
the career choices with them and you are
most welcome to attend with them on the
night. Note, it is not a compulsory event but
we ask that if you do sign up, that you attend
as many of our speakers are travelling
considerable distances to be here. If your
son/daughter is not yet in the aspiration
cohort, please encourage them to achieve a
gold behaviour ranking so that they can
qualify.

Ebola Virus - Advice for parents/guardians
Parents/guardians should not be unduly
worried about the possibility of their children
catching the Ebola Virus. You may wish to
use the following key points from the Public
Health England advice to reassure them:



Winning Groups on Wednesday 22nd
October 2014
Danielle Searle and Maria Oyenuga.
Dishon Daley, Jordan Deeble, Deanna
Hankin and Charlie Hendricks.
Limbert Stemarthe, Grace Tayo, Luckman
Juma and Hayden Monk.

The risk of Ebola arriving in the UK is low
and to date there have been no cases of
Ebola Virus Disease being contracted in
the UK.
Any person arriving in the UK having
travelled from any Ebola affected
countries will be screened. If they are free
of symptoms they are not infectious so
there should be no restrictions on their
school attendance or normal activities.
It is not possible to catch Ebola from a
person who is not showing signs of being
infected. It can only be caught by direct
contact with the blood or body fluids of a
person who is ill with the disease.
There is no reason why your children
should not continue to attend school or
their early years setting as normal.
Further information on the Government's
response to the Ebola virus can be found on
GOV.UK
Rosie’s Success
Rosie Dunn 11A recently
competed in the IKU
European Championships
in London. She was entered
into the 14-15 year olds
individual open weight
category and competed
against many other
competitors from around the country. She
won the silver medal in Wadaryu Kata and
also won a bronze medal in the Team Kumite
in the open weight category.
Library Books Return Date
Please check the return date in your library
book. There are a number of Year 7s and
Year 8s who should have returned their
library book/s before now.
Failure to return library books will prevent a
student from borrowing another book. If you
want the book for longer, you need to take
the book to the library and have the time
extended.
Ms Osland
School Librarian
She is a brown belt 1st Kyu after 8 years of
competing and practising. This is an amazing
achievement and we all congratulate her on
this amazing achievement. Beijing 2016???

Half-term visit to the partner school
Over the half-term I had the pleasure of
visiting our partner school Gimnazjum no 4 in

Year 7 Geography Students
We are planning on taking the Year 7
students to Barking to learn about the new
developments over the next few weeks. This
will take place during their lessons. Students
have been given stickers to put into their
planners on the relevant dates. For the
students to attend this trip, parents/carers
need to sign next to this sticker to provide
parental permission. Thank you for your help
and support.
