As you will be aware, before half term we completed our first phase of the ACHIEVE Days programme, which took our students both abroad and to a number of local museums, exhibitions and experiences. One of the key principles that underpins the work we do at JRCS is to offer our students as many possibilities to extend their learning outside the classroom as possible. Some of the locations visited by students were as far afield as the WWI battlefields of Belgium and Colchester Zoo. New this year was a Year 8 trip to the Science Museum, organised by Miss Hunnisett, where students were able to engage in the exciting world of rocket technology and the more personal interactive activities in the ‘Who am I?’ area. Dishon Daley, Jordan Deeble, Deanna Hankin and Charlie Hendricks. Limbert Stemarthe, Grace Tayo, Luckman Juma and Hayden Monk. The risk of Ebola arriving in the UK is low and to date there have been no cases of Ebola Virus Disease being contracted in the UK. Any person arriving in the UK having travelled from any Ebola affected countries will be screened. If they are free of symptoms they are not infectious so there should be no restrictions on their school attendance or normal activities. It is not possible to catch Ebola from a person who is not showing signs of being infected. It can only be caught by direct contact with the blood or body fluids of a person who is ill with the disease. There is no reason why your children should not continue to attend school or their early years setting as normal. Further information on the Government's response to the Ebola virus can be found on GOV.UK Rosie’s Success Rosie Dunn 11A recently competed in the IKU European Championships in London. There are a number of Year 7s and Year 8s who should have returned their library book/s before now. Failure to return library books will prevent a student from borrowing another book. If you want the book for longer, you need to take the book to the library and have the time extended. Ms Osland School Librarian She is a brown belt 1st Kyu after 8 years of competing and practising.
