Part-time course OCR iTQ Level 1 (OCR Level 1 Certificate for IT Users) 0/8111/0 Course description: This course is ideal if you have a basic knowledge of IT and want to learn more, particularly the IT skills needed in an office. You will cover subjects such as spreadsheets, presentations, database, word processing, e-mail and the internet. This course will improve your CV and could be great for your career prospects as it is recognised by businesses across the UK. Level 1 Length of course and time commitment per week: This is a 40 hour (40 week) course. Drop in and study at days and times that suit you - see opening times below. Please note, you are required to attend a minimum of 2 sessions a week. Fee: Morning Afternoon Evening Monday 9.30am-12pm 1pm-4pm 5.30pm - 8.00pm £250. This course is FREE to those on certain benefits. Please ask and see below for information. Tuesday- - - Wednesday 9am - 12pm 1pm-4pm - Entry requirements: Thursday 9am - 12pm 1pm-4pm 6pm - 8pm There are no formal entry requirements for this course. You do need to have a basic knowledge of IT. Friday 9am - 12pm 1pm-4pm - What you will do: 13 credits are required to complete this qualification. This consists of 1 mandatory unit (worth 3 credits) plus optional units (which need to equal 10 credits). See below for options: Mandatory unit Unit Content Credit Value Unit 1 - Improving productivity using IT Understand the reasons why particular tools and techniques have been used to produce a document. 3 Optional units Unit Content Credit Value Unit 18 - Database software Use Microsoft Access software to add to and amend an existing database and to select, sort and print data. 3 Unit 30 - Desktop publishing software Use Microsoft Publisher to produce and print a simple publication including imported text and image files in a standard layout. 3 Units 33 & 39 - Using email and Internet Use the interactive BBC Webwise to learn how to navigate the internet, send and receive e-mail messages and attachments. 5 Unit 42 - IT Security for users Use simple methods to protect software and personal data from unauthorised access and computer viruses. Identify security risks and the laws and guidelines that affect the use of IT. 1 Unit 45 - BBC WebWise (Using Mobile IT Devices) Learn how to set up a mobile device, use applications, transfer data and maintain performance. Unit 58 - Presentation Use Microsoft Excel to enter, edit and present numerical data using formulae and software basic formatting tools. Produce and format a variety of charts and graphs. 3 Unit 69 - Spreadsheet Use Microsoft Excel to enter, edit and present numerical data using formulae and software basic formatting tools. Produce and format a variety of charts and graphs. 3 Unit 77 - Word processing software 3 Use a computer to create files and folders. Use Microsoft Word to create documents, edit and format text layout and use document properties. Unit 91 - BBC WebWise Learn how to safeguard your computer and yourself. (Internet Safety for IT Users) Unit 92 - Using a computer keyboard continued overleaf Use a computer keyboard to key in and edit information accurately and control the user interface without the aid of a mouse. 1 Benefits of the course: On this course you will learn the skills you need to work in an office. This qualification is nationally recognised by employers and could improve your career and job prospects. The iTQ Level 1 can also be used as a stepping stone to other qualifications in IT. Assessment: Units will be assessed by the tutor over the duration of the course. In addition you will complete a ‘live’ assignment that will form part of the evidence for your qualification. What you can do after this course: You may wish to go onto the iTQ Level 2 or other qualifications in IT at the appropriate level for you.
