Each Monday the staff meeting for an admin meeting first thing to look over the coming week and the calendar has been chocka! Swimming is well underway with the children settled into this routine and from what I hear making good progress with their swimming skills. They love telling me how great they are at swimming. Matt had a group of 16 students running in the Interzone Cross Country competition in Karori yesterday – yes in the rain. Classes have been visiting the Carter Observatory as part of their Inquiry into Space - we are so lucky to have this fantastic resource right on our doorstep. Strike performance group visited the school last week and by all accounts I missed a really good show. Unfortunately I was attending an important Principals’ meeting to learn more about the plans the government has for us in their ‘Investing in Educational Success’ policy. We, the teachers, had our first of several professional development meetings last night looking at our writing programmes across the school. This is one aspect we have chosen to focus on this year as we review and update our school curriculum. We have been fortunate to secure the services of Karen Coulton from professional development providers Accent Learning to support us in this. Four of our junior teachers attended their second workshop for the Incredible Years Teacher Classroom Management Programme. Thank you for all the support we get for event supervision and help. There are so many great opportunities for the students that can be only taken up with this support. Nga mihi nui Raewyn Watson, Principal/Tumaki SCHOLASTIC BOOK FAIR Starts Tomorrow !!! Home & School HVS Quiz night- Thursday 3rd July 2014 at The Pines 7.30pm With only 3 weeks left until the HVS quiz it’s time to start booking in the babysitter, brushing up on your general knowledge, and collecting your gold coins for the raffle. Below is some important information on how to register your four person team for this fun evening. When you’re ready to go, email me on [email protected] and I will give you all the info you need to register and pay for your team. Our preferred method of payment is an online bank transfer to our Home and School bank account, but we do also of course accept cash or cheques. When you register your team I will send you through the Home and School bank account number along with a reference code to include in the payment. There won’t be any door sales available on the night so get in quick to secure one of the 35 team places. Not got a full team? That’s okay register yourself anyway as an individual participant ($15/person) and we will allocate you a team on the night-it will be a great way to meet others from the local community and school. If you require any further information on how to register your quiz team please contact me on 021 301 074. Best times to call are between 7pm and 10pm most evenings. On the night we will be raffling off some yummy gourmet hampers but still have a bit of room to fill in some of them. So if you have something you’re able to donate towards this raffle, or know of a business or someone else willing to donate, please contact Kate Bromfield on [email protected]. As always we do still need help with running the evening so if you can help in anyway please let Caroline McGlinchy know on [email protected] and she can find you a job that suits you. By the way please ignore the autoreply on my email. I check for non-work related emails everyday ☺ Cheers Caz Houghton Valley School Fair - Saturday November 8th Thank you so much to all those who have volunteered for co-ordinator roles for the Fair this year.
