One of the escaping trio
was
recaptured less than 300 y a r d s
from the jail by elate troopers who
were called by Sheriff
George
Brown of L a k e George to aid in
the search for the prisoners.
Still a t large are George Blair,
26, and E a r l Colman, 27, both of
Hudson Falls, who were being detained on c h a r g e s of larceny, second degree.
Authorities a r e confident
that
Blair a n d Colman had accomploces
waiting for t h e m outside the jail
with a n automobile. Sheriff Brown
said t h e y h e a d e d south toward
L a k e George.
T h e prisoner who was recaptured
is J o s e p h Brown, 22, of New Can a a n , Conn., charged with m a n slaughter, second aegree. H e w a s

the chance to escape b u t Pedrick
made for the open door and freedom only to halted by the sight of
Mrs. Brown, the sheriff's wife, who
had rushed out a t the first noise.
Sheriff Brown, who answered the
calls of his wife w h e n s h e saw the
men fleeing from the jail, stopped
to get his gun a n d w h e n he appeared the men were already out
of sight. H e immediately
summoned the trooners and

Authorities accused P e d r i c k of

PEP UP THE VEGETABLES
W h e n t h e vegetables begin to look the worse for bad weather,
Insects, or lack of fertility, side dressing with a nitrogenous fertilizer may pay. The new mimeographed bulletin V 20, "Side Dressing
Vegetable Crops", tells w h a t fertilizers to apply and how to apply
t h e m . T h e side dressing usually most benefits leafy crops, such as
lettuce, endive, spinach, chard, celery, and cabbage.
Many transplanted crops are often benefitted by a nitrogen fertilizer, if applied
soon after t r a n s p l a n t i n g .
If the fertilizer strilsfes the leaves it
d a m a g e s t h e m , but if applied to the row the leaves regain that
dark g r e e n color.
