The Cantorettes, featuring Cantor Deborrah Cannizzaro, Cantor Beth Schlossberg,
and Cantorial leader Joy Katzen-Guthrie
and accompanist Tara Schwartzbaugh, will
entertain seniors with a musical program of
Hanukkah selections and golden oldies at
Congregation Schaarai Zedek’s seniors luncheon on Thursday, Dec. 18 at 11:15 a.m.
There will also be preschool children singing
for the seniors. Lunch will be served and is

Hanukkah dinner and services will be
held at Congregation Beth Am, 2030 W.
Fletcher Ave., on Friday, Dec. 19, beginning
at 6 p.m. with a vegetarian potluck dinner
and menorah lighting, followed by Shabbat
services at 7:30 p.m. Participants are asked
to bring a vegetarian dish to share. The Men’s
Club will provide latkes. There is no cost for
the event.

On Friday, Dec. 19 at 7:30 p.m., Congregation Schaarai Zedek will hold a Hanukkah
musical Shabbat service. Participants will
light Hanukkah candles together and listen
to Hanukkah music presented by Koleinu,
the congregation’s choir.

A Hanukkah Shabbat service and dinner
will be held at Congregation Rodeph Sholom on Friday, Dec. 19. There will be a meet
and greet and menorah candle lighting at 5
p.m. and the Shabbat service, including a
story and singing, is at 6 p.m. The dinner at
7 p.m. includes a kosher beef brisket, latkes
and sides and dessert. There also will be Hanukkah games to play. The cost is $25 for
adults and $12 for children 4-12. Children 3
and under are free.

Young Israel Chabad of Tampa will hold
its 10th annual Haunkkah on Ice on Sunday,
Dec. 22 from 5-7 p.m. at the Tampa Bay
Skating Academy, 255 Forest Lakes Blvd.,
Oldsmar. The event will feature the lighting
of a sculpted grand ice menorah, ice skating with Jewish music, a kosher food stand,
arts and crafts, and latkes. Admission is $5

The Seventh Annual Jewish Heritage
Night will be held on the last night of Hanukkah, Tuesday, Dec. 23 at Amalie Arena
as fans cheer on the Tampa Bay Lightning
against the Pittsburgh Penguins. The event is
jointly sponsored by the Chabad Centers of
Tampa Bay and Tampa Jewish Community
Center & Federation. A pre-game menorah lighting ceremony will be held at 6:45
p.m., with surprise guests, at Ford Thunder
Alley. Registration includes terrace level end
zone ticket ($60 face value), kosher Hanukkah-themed meal, a Lightning hat, menorah
necklace and exclusive access to a private
Jewish Heritage Night Community Section.
Game tickets are $30 for the first 200 registrants and $40 thereafter. To register contact

The Jewish Discovery Center of Brandon
will hold a free pre-Hanukkah menorah
building workshop on Sunday Dec. 14 from
10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Home Depot, 10151 Bloomingdale Ave., Riverview.
Everyone will get to build their own menorah, meet Judah the Maccabee and receive

A car menorah parade from the Jewish Discovery Center of Brandon, 1578
Bloomingdale Ave, Valrico, to the Westfield
Brandon Mall, 459 Brandon Town Center
Drive, for a menorah lighting ceremony will
take place Tuesday Dec. 16. The parade begins at 5:30 p.m. with at least 10 cars with
menorahs on their roofs driving in a group
to the mall for the lighting ceremony, which
takes place at 6:30 p.m. This will be the first
ever car menorah parade in Brandon and the
lighting will feature Brandon’s tallest meno-
rah, face painting, Tony the Balloon Guy, hot
latkes, Hanukkah music and dancing. This

A Healing Hour Hanukkah party will be
held on Thursday, Dec. 18 at 7:30 p.m. at
Congregation Beth Shalom in Brandon, 706

The Jewish Discovery Center of Brandon
will hold its first Grand Menorah Lighting
in Sun City Center on Thursday, Dec. 18 at
5 p.m. at the Sun City Center Chamber of
Commerce, 1651 Sun City Center Plaza. The
free event includes the lighting of a 6-foot
menorah, hot latkes, a dec-a-doughnut station where folks can add toppings to their
doughnuts, and a guess the dreidel competition, Hanukkah music and dancing. RSVP at

Congregation Beth Israel, 1115 E. Del
Webb Blvd., Sun City Center, will hold its
annual Hanukkah party on Sunday, Dec. 21
at 4 p.m., co-sponsored by Sisterhood and
Men’s Club. A catered dinner buffet featuring beef, chicken or a vegetarian option by
request, as well as latkes, will be offered.
Music will be provided by the Scott Blum
trio. Cost for members is $25, and for nonmembers it is $30. Reservations must be

Children of all ages and their families can

Light up the night at the 6th annual Grand
Hanukkah Celebration put on by Chabad
Jewish Centre at Wiregrass on Sunday, Dec
21 at 5:30 p.m. at The Shops at Wiregrass,
28211 Paseo Drive, Wesley Chapel. There
will be a large menorah lighting, entertainment, magic, balloon making, face painting,
kids activities, hot potato latkes, Hanukkah gelt, music, crafts for kids, prizes and

Chabad Jewish Centre of Wiregrass will
hold a Cteen Hanukkah limo ride party on
Tuesday, Dec. 23. Teens will meet at the
Chabad, 2124 Ashley Oaks Circle, at 5 p.m.
for a stretch limo ride to Amalie Arena to
watch a Tampa Bay Lightning game in conjunction with Jewish Heritage Night. The
cost is $25 and includes tickets to the game,

A Sisterhood Hanukkah Bazaar will be
held at Congregation Schaarai Zedek on
weekdays through Dec. 19 from 9 a.m. to 4
p.m. and on Sundays from 9 a.m. to 11:30
a.m.

The Congregation Beth Am Sisterhood
will hold a Hanukkah Gift Fair and a bake
sale on Sunday, Dec. 14 from 9:30 a.m. to
noon. On sale will be menorahs, candles,
books, driedels, decorations and other Judaica gift items, as well as home made baked
goods made by Sisterhood members. The gift
fair and bake sale will both take place in the
Beth Am lobby.

Genealogical Society
Lunch and learn social: The Jewish Genealogical Society of Tampa Bay will
meet at Gulf Coast Jewish Family & Community Services, 14041 Icot Blvd., Clearwater, on Sunday, Dec. 14 at noon for a
potluck lunch. At 1:30 p.m. the group will
elect and install new officers, followed by a
program featuring members’ success stories
and “lessons learned.” The lunch is free to

Hadassah
Officer installation and music:
The Chai Chapter of Hadassah will install
new officers, enjoy music and pay tribute to
new members at a catered luncheon on Sunday, Jan. 18 from 12:30-3:30 p.m. at Congregation Beth Israel, 1115 Del Web Blvd.

JCC
News schmooze: On Friday, Dec. 12
from 10:30 a.m. to noon a discussion group
meets to keep current on “hot button” issues.
Diverse points of view are encouraged and
respected. Explore social, political, and economic issues in the news around the world,
and share problem solving strategies. The
group first reviews “what’s happening” and
then launches into discussion on the topic
of Justice in America. There is no charge to
attend.
Mah jongg lessons: Join Vickie
Solkin and her group of students on Tuesdays from 1-3 p.m. for a four-week session
that runs Dec. 16 to Jan. 6 The cost is $16
for members, $20 for non-members.
Sephardic Festival: A three-part
lecture series, henna body art and a Ladino
concert are included in a Sephardic Festival
at the JCC. On Wednesday, Dec. 17 from 11
a.m. to 2 p.m., author George Zucker of
Tampa will give the final of three lectures
on the Jews of Spain from the late 19th century through the mid-20th century. There will
be a lunch intermission for the lecture with
Weinberg Kosher Catering offering Sephardic dishes. The charge for the lecture,
including lunch is $8 for JCC members,
$10 for non-members. Reservations are required.
On Monday, Dec. 15 from 1:30-3 p.m.,
Cantorial leader Joy Katzen-Guthrie and
Cantor Andres Kornworcel present a Ladino concert. There will also be a latke tasting. Cost is $5 per JCC member and $6 for
non-members. There is no charge for children under 12.
Boosting the brain: A free class at
Weinberg Village on Thursday, Dec. 18
from 1:45-2:45 p.m. will explore ways of
optimizing brain function. The session includes a 30-minute video lecture, group discussion, and refreshments.
Sculpting class: The Jewish Community Center offers beginning sculpture classes on Tuesdays and Fridays from 10 a.m.
to noon. Instructor Stephen Handschu has
been a sculptor and instructor for more than
40 years. Participants first create a model
out of clay, and then carve figures out of alabaster. Come dressed ready to make a mess.
An apron would be helpful. Call to assure
space in the class and for the price.
