I had such a fantastic time over in
Nashville and Memphis. It was nice
to have two days before the Brother
conference to get over the long trip. Then, travelling through to Memphis to wind down
before heading home. It was all such a wonderful
experience.

The first morning of the conference was the
release of the new models in the Brother range,
including the “Dream Machine” – I was like a kid
in a lolly shop, emailing Gary back in Brisbane.
I couldn’t type fast enough, as the technology
Brother have been able to incorporate in both the
sewing and embroidery side of the machine, is
JUST AMAZING. It is a must see to believe!

There are so many exciting additions to the

It wasn’t until the last day of the conference that I
attended the hands-on workshop on the new
“Dream Machine”. I can’t speak highly enough
about the new features. The camera and
scanning technology is so much clearer and
faster; larger scene, scanning function with embroidery, auto-stippling and digitizing being very
quick and easy to do ... and so much more!

HANDS-ON EMBROIDERY WORKSHOP
with Kym Goldup-Graham
Echidna is teaming up with Kym GoldupGraham from The Sewing Revolution for
one of our acclaimed “Embroidery In Focus
Kym will be holding a hands-on workshop on the
Monday 17th November after the event. Book early
for this workshop as I am sure it will fill quickly.
Road Shows” on 16th November. Hopefully this time
the weather will be a little kinder to us and we won’t
have any mini cyclones around like the one that hit us
in April. These fun-filled one day events are always
well worth attending and with Kym and Gary
presenting, we are all bound to have a great day.
Tickets will be only $49 per person and at this stage
we are scheduling a 9.00am start with a 4.00pm
finish. Morning and afternoon tea, along with a light
lunch will be provided, and of course, the usual
Echidna surprises will be revealed on the day.

CREATIVE CLUB
What do we do in Creative Club? I inspire you with some
great projects and also keep you up-to-date with the latest
techniques for how to get the most out of your embroidery
machine.
TASSELLS & TEXTURES
Fri 26th Sept 9.30am & Sat 27th Sept 1pm
We are going to have fun with combining all sorts of ribbons
and braids to create a beautiful background which you will
be able to use for a cushion or bed runner panel. Adding
embroidery will just give it a lovely finishing touch.

OCTOBER CLUB DAY
Let’s Play With Lettering
Kym and Gary are planning a diverse range of topics
that are sure to enhance your embroidery
experience including how the ScanNCut can be

lettering, but most of us just use it to add a
name onto a towel etc. In this club
lesson I am going to show you some
things you can create by utilizing
lettering designs in your machine and
using basic software. We are also going to play with
creating our own embossed designs for towels.

JULIE HALL DEMONSTRATION &
TRUNK SHOW
Do you have a project you have started and need
some help completing? Or do you
want to do demonstration classes hands-on?
Even if you want to start sewing, these are
the classes for you. Our Sit and Sew classes
are being held most Wednesdays.
In November we are going to have a special
guest in store – Julie Hall. Julie has been
digitizing designs for the past 9 years and
currently has 147 design collections. I am
sure you will all be inspired with her samples
and creative ideas for using embroidery.
The project Julie will be doing is her beautiful
Iris Wall hanging. Kits for the project,
including designs, Mylar and instructions are
included with the workshop.

This technique takes all of the hard work out of
quilting as each of our blocks are quilted before we
piece them together. The main blocks are
embroidered first with a design of your choice, then I
will show you how to quilt them; either using an
embroidered quilting design or with a normal sewing
machine. In the second workshop we will put them all
together.

FOOT FRENZY
Fri 17th October
9.30am-11.30pm COST $10
There is no need for you to bring your
machines for this one – we are going to
demonstrate to you some great ways to
utilize your accessory feet. Each month
we will be highlighting a technique and
which foot is best used. This is a must do
class for ALL sewers!
LITTLE GIRLS’ DRESS WORKSHOP

This gorgeous dress is one that any little
girl would love. There are so many
different techniques you will learn from
piping, lace insertion, etc. You can even
add some embroidery if you wish. Make
it for a special occasion or as a special
Christmas dress. Just beautiful!
STABILIZER
“Use What, Where” Folder
Sat 18th Oct 9.30am-3.30pm

Knowing what stabilizer to use with which
technique is the secret to perfect embroidery. In
these workshops you are going create your own
reference folder so that you will know exactly
what to use. A MUST DO class for everyone who
loves embroidery.
DRESSMAKING TIPS & TECHNIQUES

Whether you are just starting learn to sew or have
been sewing for years, you will learn heaps in this
workshop. I am going to step you through how to
insert zips – both normal and invisible, stitch
pockets, topstitch, and do blind hems.I will show
you how to achieve a professional finish to your
garments, the quick and easy way.

overlocking, with pointers on things such as
starting and finishing seams, as well as gathering
and rolled hems.
