Gwen Shannon CMS West Learning Community 2014-2015 Principal of the Year Gwen Shannon, Principal, Westerly Hills Academy Gwen Shannon is proud to serve as the principal of Westerly Hills Academy. A native of Charlotte, N.C. and a proud graduate of Garinger High School, she attended The University of North Carolina at Greensboro where she earned a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Communication Disorders. Her educational journey continued to the University of North Carolina at Charlotte earning her Master’s in Education in Curriculum and Supervision and Gardner -Webb University earning her administrative certification. Her career began as a teacher assistant at Statesville Road Elementary School and progressed through various positions and schools withi n the district. She has taught in grades 1 -6, served as the magnet lead teacher, conducted technology training for the district, functioned as the curriculum facilitator for Westerly Hills Elementary and served as the assistant and curriculum support for t wo Area Superintendents. She worked as the Assistant Principal at Ashley Park Elementary School before being named the Principal of Lansdowne Elementary School. Mrs. Shannon returned to Westerly Hills Academy to lead and support all stakeholders during its transition from elementary to PK -8th grades. She is excited to lead Westerly Hills to its vision of becoming a 90 -90-90 school. Westerly Hills Academy Home of the Majestic and Proud!
