Mrs. McGilvery will begin in July following the retirement of current principal Mrs. Susan Mingey. Mrs. McGilvery comes to Haverford from the Upper Darby School District, where she is the Coordinator of the English Language Learners Program. District Superintendent Dr. William Keilbaugh said, “Haverford warmly welcomes Mrs. McGilvery to our administrative team. Jillian is a wonderful educator, neighbor, and alumna who understands our community. Her student-centered instructional leadership will continue Lynnewood’s outstanding tradition of excellence.” Mrs. McGilvery said, “I am thrilled to work in the community that I know and love. I am excited to lead such a dynamic group of teachers and families in giving our students more opportunities to grow, develop, and achieve. I am honored to serve as the principal of Lynnewood Elementary School and am committed to helping every child reach his or her full potential.” Jillian (Tarves) McGilvery graduated from Haverford High School in 1995. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Millersville University and a Master of Education degree from the University of Georgia. Mrs. McGilvery’s Pennsylvania certifications include Principal, K – 12; ESL Program Specialist, K – 12; Reading Specialist, K – 12; and Elementary Education, K – 6. Mrs. McGilvery began her career in education teaching elementary students in Atlanta, Georgia. She taught English Language Learners in Barcelona, Spain and in Radnor Township School District before assuming her administrative position of ELL Coordinator in the Upper Darby School District. Over the last six years, she has developed and led a comprehensive curricular program for 850 students and 26 teachers. Mrs. McGilvery and her husband, Jim, reside in Haverford Township and are the proud parents of a three year old son, Kieran, and one year old twins, Molly and Quinn. Lynnewood Elementary School has 588 students in K- 5th grade. The current principal, Mrs. Susan Mingey, is retiring after 9 years at Lynnewood and over 20 years in the district. The District currently has a student enrollment of approximately 5,700. There are seven schools in the District: Chatham Park, Chestnutwold, Coopertown, Lynnewood, and Manoa elementary schools, with grades kindergarten through 5; Haverford Middle School, with grades 6-8; and Haverford High School, with grades 9-12.
