MAILING INDUSTRY
2014 SCHEDULE OF EVENTS
PRESIDENT’S NOTES By Laura Barber
I hope everyone had a great
summer and that the fall brings
greatness as well. I have been
noticing that at most events, for
all organizations, not just for MMA, that we see
the same faces all the time at events. While
we appreciate seeing anyone at the events, the
MMA has been discussing trying to find ways
to get the younger generation that is newly
working in the industry to events. They need
to be given encouragement to join our groups
and organizations and we as veterans need to
help them to network and get information about
the events so they will attend. Maybe you can
mentor or just encourage a younger person at
your own company to attend the meetings and
events and teach them how to network so they
can learn more about the work they are doing
and meet more resources that may be able to
help them in their day to day duties. This is very
important as an effort to keep our mailing, printing
and fulfillment industry going strong! Please give
this some thought and work toward helping the
next generation of mailers, printers and fulfillment
workers learn as much as they can about our
industry. We need everyone to participate if we
want to keep it going strong. Thank you all for
your efforts. Hope to see you at the next MMA
event.

As a member of MMA, there are certain
benefits that come with membership. One
of these benefits is the ability to get word
out about your company. As a member, you
may write up a paragraph or two about your
company’s strengths and abilities and any
possible contact information and submit it to
MMA and we will put it into the next newsletter
that has space available. We would let you
know which newsletter your company profile
would appear in so you can be watching
for it. On top of the mailed newsletters, it is
also posted to our website via the newsletter
for anyone who views the site. This is just
another added value of being a member
of MMA. Please take advantage of the
benefits available to you and make your MMA
membership work for you!
2014 HOLIDAY SHIPPING DATES

With the holiday season approaching, we are reminding friends and families to mail early to ensure delivery of their
holiday cards and packages, especially to APO/FPO/DPO destination addresses, by December 25. Deadlines for
mailing to specific APO/FPO/DPO ZIP Codes vary according to the specific classes of mail being sent to them. They
are listed below.
We also remind mailers that all mail addressed to overseas military/diplomatic Post Offices is subject to certain conditions or restrictions regarding content, preparation and handling.
Those restrictions are listed by individual APO/FPO/DPO ZIP Code in each Postal Bulletin. To access this listing on
the Internet, go to pe.usps.com, click Postal Bulletins in the blue navigation bar, and then select the Pull-Out Information section.

US BANK TOUR
Members and guests of the Minnesota Mailers Association (MMA) were treated to a great tour hosted by US Bank
October 8th. There was a short presentation at the beginning to explain how their operations work and how they
are working to make sure each customer gets what they want. They allowed the groups to go thru their printing
center and then thru their inserting and mailing center. It was good to see that they also recognized that MAIL
is here to stay! Although there are a lot of people who want estatements and notifications, there is still and will
always be a need for MAILED statements and notifications. For those of us in the printing and mailing industry, it
was refreshing to hear and realize our industry is not a dinosaur. They also talked about how they work with their
mailing vendors and the USPS to eliminate as much undeliverable as addressed mail. This was a great topic as
most of us deal with these things daily. There
was a little something for everyone to learn
on this tour and US Bank did a great job of
explaining things and answering questions
from the group. MMA would like to thank all
who attended and give a special thank you
to US Bank for opening their doors to us and
helping create a great event. Hope to see
you all at our next event in December for the
Holiday Party! Until then…keep mailing!
MSMA Annual Boat Cruise
It was a beautiful day in July on Lake Minnetonka aboard the
Paradise Destiny for the MSMA annual boat cruise. The MSMA
switched things up a little bit and made it an early afternoon
cruise this year. There were plenty of old faces as well as some
new ones. The networking was fabulous and everyone was in
a great mood for the day. It seemed like all enjoyed the earlier
start time and the delicious light lunch that was provided on
the boat. MSMA had several gift basket giveaways donated by
their generous members and sponsors and MMA was glad to be
a donor. As always, hats off to MSMA for putting together this
wonderful networking event!
MEMBER SPOTLIGHT
I’ve been involved with the printing industry for the past 16 years, and have become
more involved with the mailing industry in the past couple of years. Being somewhat
new to the mailing industry I’ve found that MMA has been an invaluable resource for
me. Being able to meet and network with the new people that I have has been
wonderful. The best part of MMA for me is being able to talk to the people that have
been a part of the industry for far longer than I have, and get ideas and solutions from
them.
I’ve been at National Business Systems for the past 8 years. I initially started as the Lead
Bryan
Print Operator. In October of 2012 I became manager of our Print area, and in
November of 2013 I became manager of our mail inserting area as well. The majority of
the work I do revolves around the printing and mailing of statements for financial institutions.
