Patricia Olivia II is a sleek and ultra-high speed vessel that was built by Derecktor Shipyards of the United
States. On sea trials Patricia Olivia II achieved 52 knots at full displacement, making it the fastest
passenger-only catamaran in the world.

Derecktor Shipyards is one of the United States' foremost leaders in aluminum, commercial and luxury boat
construction, service, repair and refit. The company is renowned for building innovative vessels like Stars &
Stripes, the last aluminum 12 metre to win the America's Cup; Encore, the winner of the 1996 Fastnet race;
together with many Coast Guard Cutters and other luxury vessels.

Nigel Gee & Associates (now BMT Nigel Gee) who provided design of the hull structure, machinery,
systems and fit-out in conjunction with the hull design and the tank testing;
Pininfarina, a leading Italian automotive and marine designer, who developed the racy exterior
styling; and,
Arquitecto Julio Cesar Ortega who was engaged to design the luxurious interior to Buquebus' exact
requirements.
After detailed analysis and tank testing, the designers settled upon a chine hull catamaran design which was
proven to offer much less resistance at high speed than a more conventional round bilge catamaran design.
The vessel is fitted with a Detroit Diesel TF80 Marine Turbine that uses a Cincinnati MA107 gearbox and two
AlliedSignal TF40 marine turbines, with a total power of 5,535 kW installed in each hull. Each pair of turbines
are mounted directly onto the Cincinnati gearbox. The gearbox combines the power and reduces the single
output shaft speed to 765 rpm. Independent clutches on the turbine input shafts allow for single turbine
operation in each hull for slower operating speeds and should it be required, power from the second turbine
