Lunenburg Doc Fest proudly announces the screening of THE GIRLS
IN THE BAND.!
They wiggled, they jiggled, they wore low cut gowns and short shorts, they kowtowed to the club owners and smiled at the customers … and they did it all, just to
play the music they loved. $
THE GIRLS IN THE BAND tells the poignant, untold stories of female jazz
and big band instrumentalists and their fascinating, groundbreaking journeys
from the late 20's to the present day. These incredibly talented women endured
sexism, racism and diminished opportunities for decades, yet continue today to
persevere, inspire and elevate their talents in a field that seldom welcomed them.$
THE GIRLS IN THE BAND will screen at The Pearl Theatre. Screening
times to be announced. Learn more at www.LunenburgDocFest.com.

Lunenburg Doc Fest extends a special thank you to New Voice
Language Academy, the host of our free Youth Documentary Workshop.!
Owned and operated by Alden Darville and Nicola Sattler, New Voice
Language Academy is located in downtown Lunenburg and offers
tutoring in many subjects, including but not limited to all elementary
school subjects, mathematics, chemistry, physics, Spanish, French,
German, and Chinese. Most notably though, NVLA offers extensive
programs in English as a Second Language for students and adults
wishing to improve their English level. Many of New Voice’s students
have been or are entering into the Nova Scotia public school system, or
are using our University Pathway Program to prepare themselves for
their university careers. NVLA has built a reputation on quality service
and concrete results, and its team of qualified teachers are
knowledgeable in their subject areas and enthusiastic about sharing
their knowledge.!
