Welcome Aboard! USNSCC Training Contingent, NBK Winter Recruit Training, 2014-2015 Parent Information: Welcome and congratulations on your Cadet’s orders to the Winter Recruit Training (RT) being held at Naval Base Kitsap (NBK), Bangor from 26 December, 2014 to 03 January, 2015. This letter will serve as your Cadet’s guidance for reporting, graduation, and their personal and professional demeanor while in attendance. The cost for attendance is $170, and this does not include transportation to/from the RT. Cadet drop-off for the RT will be at the Naval Undersea Museum in Keyport, Washington at 1300 on the 26th of December. Cadet graduation will be at 1100 at the same location on the 3rd of January. We have chosen to do this for 2 reasons. First, the Museum is an excellent supporter of the Sea Cadets and youth education in general. Second, this will eliminate the need for a parent/guardian to gain access to NBK Bangor, as the Museum is free and open to the public (feel free to take a tour either when you drop-off your Cadet, or when you attend Graduation). The Museum address is 1 Garnett Way, Keyport, WA, 98345. The directions to arrive are not too complicated. Simply find your way to highway 3 North on the Olympic Peninsula. Take the NBK Bangor/Keyport exit on the right (right hand lane too), and take a right onto the Keyport ramp (going straight or being in the left lane will put you at the gate for NBK Bangor). Take a right onto highway 308. If you are coming from the North (the Bainbridge Island Ferry will have you coming South), take the same exit, but take a left onto Highway 308. Continue through 2 traffic lights (first will have an AMPM on the corner, second will be in a school zone), and take a right at the 3rd light. Be in the left lane, and turn up the hill into the museum parking lot. The Cadets will be gathering in the Jack Murdock Auditorium (the graduation will be in the same location). Once the Cadet is checked in, they will proceed to change into their dress uniform and fall into the auditorium. Parents will not be allowed to remain on-site once we have checkedin the Cadet and completed a Sea-Bag inspection. Don’t worry, though, we will take excellent care of your Cadet. The cut-off date for enrollment will be the 26th of November. This will allow the COTC and XOTC time to make arrangements for berthing based on the number and gender of Cadets. What is required by the 26th? A completed NSCTNG001 (Cadet Training Request) must be mailed to the Training Contingent. Our mailing address is PO Box 6098, Silverdale, WA, 98315. The request must have the payment of $170 with it as well as any Accommodation and/or medical forms. Your Unit CO will still enter the required information in Magellan to register as well. Please do not send cash, a check or money order will work just fine. So, what do I need have my Cadet report with? Each Cadet should have either their service jacket, or a locally created training record. This will have all the pertinent information that your Cadet’s home Battalion/Squadron/Division will place in the folder. Make sure this comes with your Cadet in a large, sealed, yellow envelope. If prescribed medication is required for your Cadet, or there is a health concern, there should be a completed Cadet Enrollment Application in their folder (to include any Accommodation forms). Your Cadet should also have a completed Sea Bag checklist (preferably taped to the outside of the envelope) that can be found on the website, as well as their Sea Bag. It is perfectly fine to have your Cadet refrain from placing their Dress Blues Uniform in their Sea Bag, as they will be wearing it the first day. The final item your Cadet will need to bring will be a completed NBKTC001 (Cadet Development Plan). This form is a locally created packet that will assist the COTC and XOTC with your Cadet’s goals while in the Sea Cadets. You can also find this form on the website. This year, the Commanding Officer of the Training Contingent (COTC) is Instructor Riley Dunn. Instructor R. Dunn is an active duty Chief Gunner’s Mate (GMC) in the United States Coast Guard. He currently has 14 years of active service, as well as over 10 years of working within youth programs. His current job title within the Coast Guard has him as the Training Chief within the Weapons Division at the Maritime Force Protection Unit (MFPU). He is responsible for ensuring training is properly conducted and documented for over 150 personnel. As of the time of this RT, he will have 7 months with the Sea Cadets. The Executive Officer of the Training Contingent (XOTC) is Instructor Sue Dunn. Instructor S. It is important, and recommended, that you study-up on certain areas of Cadet Knowledge. In addition, you should have already completed your Basic Military Requirements (BMR) assignments 1, 5, 6, 9, and 10. Items that are due by the 26th of November include your completed Training Request and payment. Items due upon your arrival at RT include service jacket or training record (training record is preferred) in a sealed yellow envelope, a copy of your Sea Bag checklist, your completed Sea Bag (Dress Blue Uniform does not need to be stuffed in your Sea Bag and can travel in a garment bag or hung up), and a completed NBKTC001 (Cadet Development Plan, or CDP).
