SEMINAR
Machine Type Communications (MTC) over LTE and Beyond
BY
Dr. Ali Taha Koc

The seminar will be on 10 July, 2014, Thursday, at 14:00, @EE-317
Bilkent University
Machine Type Communication is expected to be a major driver of growth in mobile
communications for cellular networks, such as LTE. Since LTE networks are primarily
designed and optimized for human to human (H2H) communications, the existing protocols
and mechanisms are not effective in supporting MTC communication. Several modifications
are needed to address the service requirements and traffic characteristics of MTC devices in
these networks. In this talk, we present an overview of Machine Type Communication over
LTE and networks beyond LTE.
ALI T. KOC received his B.S. in electrical and electronics engineering from Bilkent
University, Turkey in 2001. He received his M.Sc. and Ph.D in electrical engineering from the
University of Texas at Dallas. He has been working at Intel Corporation since June 2005 as a
research scientist. He worked on power control, interference mitigation, and power saving
mechanisms for IEEE 802.16e and IEEE 802.16m in the past. His current research interests
include 4G/5G broadband mobile networks, mobile device power savings, user experience
and small cells in 3GPP LTE-A networks. He has published over 20 scientific articles in
refereed journals and conferences and has over 30 patents granted/pending.
