18. Marine Cup 2013 – tennis tournament On 23rd November the annual Marine Cup took place. Already the 18th time shipping people joined for this tennis tournament organized by Peter Gast Shipping in the hall of TuS Harburg. From 18 to abt. 23h double and mixed matches have been played and besides the sportive ambition there was time enough for having nice talks about tennis and of course also shipping. The nice team of the Restaurant Freistil was caring for drinks and food and had done an excellent buffet. Thanks to them for the friendly service from beginning to late night. In total this year 26 players participated, amongst them 4 ladies. 3 of the founders who made the Marine Cup “official” in 1996 were also present: Wolfgang Fritzsche (Martime), Peter Kruse (Carl Baguhn) and Wolfgang Rademacher (Hapag-Lloyd). Wolfgang R. unfortunately could not play as he was recovering from an injury but he was supporting all of us as a spectator. We are happy that all three are joining every year, although they are already in retirement, and hope they will continue for a very long time, like also other “old” players e.g. Uwe Lau (Hamburg-Süd) who is participating already since 1999. All results are given in the “results ranking” file. The summary of reached points was for several players very close, sometimes just 1 point difference or even equal results. The lady winner Simone Middeldorf (Luther lawfirm) was also 3rd of all participants and the first of the men was also the first of all: congratulation to our new player Sebastian Stoldt (NSB). We hope next year also his father will join us again who played regularly the Marine Cup some years ago. The 6 winners (1.-3.) are shown in the “the winners are” file – congratulation to all! The award ceremony was followed by a tombola, so that everybody was getting a price to remember this event. It was quite exciting when our Paul Cremieux did the draw and afterwards there was still time for nice chats and the last players went home around 1.30h with a cheerfull “until next year”. Elke Cathor did the organization and leaded the tournament now already since 12 years and was supported by Phillip Konow (also PGS) who was guiding all through the schedule already the 3 rd time. He was taking care that all were in time on the court (mostly…), reported the results to him and was also taking pictures. During the award ceremony Paul Cremieux (also PGS) took the pictures. The best can be seen in the “photos” file. The Marine Cup was again supported by our sponsors from shipyards and ship repairing companies, who are well-known since years – see “sponsoring shipyards” file. We also like to thank Ekkehard von Kries who did not only play but also again sponsored some nice gifts from NSB.
