PROF. OKESINA LECTURES ON GOOD GOVERNANCE
Prof. Okesina delivering his lecture on Good Governance at Okuku Town Hall.
“It is only a leader with courage and principles
that can offer his people the kind of good
governance that they deserved. It is also a
principled and courageous leader that can deliver
his
people
from
backwardness
and
underdevelopment and raise their status.” The
Vice Chancellor, Prof. Adekunle Bashiru
Okesina, gave this remark in a lecture titled 'Good
Governance: The Place of Courage and Principles'
at a forum organised by a group called Integrity
Caucus at Okuku Town Hall, Okuku. Prof.
Okesina said a good leader is the one who
combines courage with principles to fulfill his
obligations of always meeting the need of his
people. He explained that a good leader is he
who, in the face of hardship, would never give
up in his struggle to liberate his people. The
Vice Chancellor said Abraham Lincoln, Franklin
Roosevelt and George Washington did not steal
the glory of being regarded as the top three
Presidents in the history of United States of
America. He said they earned that honour by
dint of hard work in providing dogged,
committed, responsive and responsible leadership
fired by exceptional courage and remarkable
principles. Coming back to Africa, Prof. Okesina
also mentioned leaders that have combined
courage with principles to excel in governance.
He mentioned leaders like late Dr. Nelson
Mandela, the former South African President; late
Chief Obafemi Awolowo, the first Premier of the
defunct Western Nigeria; Asiwaju Bola Hamed
Tinubu, the former Governor of Lagos State;
Chief Adebisi Akande, the former Governor of
the State ofOsun and last but not the least the

INFORMATION YOU CAN USE
BIRTHDAY OF THE
WEEK
HEALTH TIPS: 10 Ways to
control your Blood Pressure (Simple Lifestyle
Changes Make a Difference)
LOSE WEIGHT: Get your BMI (body mass index, a measurement of
weight in relation to height) into the range of 18.5 – 249, and you will
be doing your heart and blood pressure a favour. Think of it this way,
extra weight you carry around is like bricks in a backpack, putting
pressure on every part of your body.
EAT PLENTY OF WHOLE GRAIN: have seven to eight serving per day of
grain product (these can include breakfast cereal, whole grain bread,
rice, pasta, pizza, etc).
EAT PLENTY OF FRUITS AND VEGETABLES: Having at least eight to ten
serving of variety of colourful fruits and vegetables will ensure you get
all the healthy antioxidants, vitamins, minerals and fiber you need.
DAIRY UP: Consuming two to three serving daily of low or non-fat dairy
foods will also build strong bones and teeth, and enhance weight loss.
LIMIT MEAT, FISH AND POULTRY TO TWO SERVING A DAY: Move the
meat off the centre of your plate, and enjoy more grains and produce.
When you do have meats, fish and poultry, always chose lean varieties.
GO NUTS! Incorporate four to five servings a week of nuts, seeds, and
legumes into your diets. They provide plenty of protein and healthful
fats.
LIMIT FATS AND OIL TO TWO TO THREE SERVINGS PER DAY: Fats are
the most concentrated source of calories. Limiting them will help you
control your weight.
HOLD THE SALT: Limit the sodium intake to approximately 2,400
milligrams a day (a moderate level) this means eating fewer canned and
processed foods, and more flesh foods.
GET OFF THE COUCH: Exercising at least 30 minutes a day can
significantly reduce blood pressure. Any form of physical activity, done
most days of the week, will do the trick.
The Management and entire Staff
of UNIOSUN rejoice with the Staff
