NUC Lauds AAUA’s Quality Assurance Efforts Two teams from the Quality Assurance Department of the National Universities Commission, on Tuesday last week, commended Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, Ondo State, Nigeria, for being quality assurance compliant. The NUC teams, according to the head of team A, Prof. Muhammad Daniyan, were at AAUA to carry out a peer-review exercise of B.Sc. Applied Geophysics, B.Sc. Industrial Mathematics, M.B.A Business Administration; M.Sc. and Ph.D. Banking and Finance programmes of the University with a view of ensuring quality assurance. Prof. Daniyan said, “Having gone through your necessary documents and moved around the facilities on ground, we observed that the philosophy and objectives of the programmes under review were very clear such that the lecturers are positioned to produce the type of graduates that will not only be job seekers but also employers of labours. “We are happy with what we saw in your curriculum. We are also happy with your admission requirements. All the students have the minimum O’ Level and JAMB requirements. “We are satisfied about the effectiveness of your academic regulations. On your course evaluation, we observed that the lecturers were diligent, the examination questions covered the curriculum. The students were also happy with the delivery. “We observed the presence of competent technical staff in your laboratories and we are happy. The facilities we saw in the laboratories were functional and we hope that you will keep that up. “The lecture theatres and classrooms are adequate, considering the number of students in the programmes. The necessary equipment are in the laboratories, though there is need for improvement, especially, in the Geo-Physics Department whose equipment are capital intensive. The Lecturers’ offices were neat and well equipped with air conditioners and refrigerators. “We saw the books in the library, including the E-Library. We observed that you have quality books and journals. Particularly, we are happy with your E-Library because some Institutions will tell you they have E-Library but when you ask for evidence, they have nothing to show. But in your own case, we were able to access your E-Library. “We also observed that you have many new infrastructures in place. This campus is beautiful, neat and safe. And we observed that you have functional and neat modern toilet facilities. The head of team B, Prof. Patrick Emekekwe, corroborated his counterpart to commend the University and urged the Management not to rest on its oars in ensuring quality service delivery. The teams appreciated the University for its warm reception and for cooperating with them in carrying out their assignment. Responding, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Femi Mimiko, thanked NUC teams for their services to not just the University system, but also the nation. Prof. Mimiko noted that the Quality Assurance programme of the NUC was directed at enhancing the capacity of the nation’s Universities to produce graduates required for the continual growth and development of the nation. The VC said, “For us, the Quality Assurance programme is commendable and worthy of support and that is why we will not leave any stone unturned in supporting the NUC vis-à-vis the programme.” Prof. Mimiko, who noted that all the University’s programmes have NUC accreditation, said, “What we have been doing here in the past few years, is to try to live a culture of accreditation for quality assurance. We don’t really wait until the NUC knocks on our door to inspect our programmes before we do the needful. As a matter of fact, we have put in place now, a programme we called Mock Accreditation – Once in a while we send out teams to the different programmes in different faculties -.” The VC said the University would continue to do everything possible to deepen the quality of its programmes, noting, “As I speak to you now, we have more than 50 of our younger colleagues scattered all over the world, struggling to get Ph.D. and we will continue to deepen that process.” He added, “All of us are conscious of the enormous responsibility that we carry as administrators of higher education in this place and I can assure you that we will continue to do everything possible to ensure that that very sacrosanct responsibility we carry, we won’t shark it at all. We will continue to bend over backward to ensure that we do our own bit.” AAUA Holds VC’s Round-Table Programme on Entrepreneurship Oct. 23 Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, Ondo State, Nigeria, will hold the VC’s Round-Table programme on Entrepreneurship on Thursday, October 23, 2014, at 12:00 noon in the Senate Chamber of the new Senate Building.
