REPORT
A three day Lecture Workshop was organized by the Department of Biotechnology Cauvery College
for Women, Trichirappalli on the topic entitled as “Advances in Biology” on 10th to 12th, September
2014. This Workshop was sponsored and supported by the National Academy of Sciences, India,
Allahabad, Indian Academy of Sciences, Bangalore and the Indian Science Academy, New Delhi.
The Main notion of the “Lecture Workshop” was to widen the scientific ideas to explore in research
thereby familiarizing the faculties, active researchers and aspirants about the current issues of
Biology. The Programme began with a Prayer song. Dr.Mrs.V.Sujatha Principal, Cauvery College
for Women, Tiruchirappalli addressed the gathering. Mr.R.Murugan President, College Governing
Council, Mr.V. Ramanathan @ Sekar Secretary, College Governing Council & Mr.R.Gobinathan,
Treasurer, College Governing Council, offered felicitations. Prof.Srinivas K.Saidapur, F.A.Sc, FNA,
FNASc, FTWAS Vice President of INSA & Former Vice Chancellor, Diamond Jubilee Professor
(for life) Dharwad, gave the introduction of “Science Academies Education Programme” which was
focussed mainly on the importance of lecture workshop on the standard forum for faculties, scholars
and other professionals by encouraging them in active participations in interacting with the experts.
The three day programme consisted of ten lectures, the invited speakers were eminent professors
from various institutions. All speakers gave explicit and elaborate lectures on their respective field
which includes: Prof.Srinivas K.Saidapur, F.A.Sc, FNA, FNASc, FTWAS Vice President of INSA
& Former Vice Chancellor, Diamond Jubilee Professor, Sripad Nagar, Dharwad, delivered talks on
“Biology: The Basic Concepts” & “Idea of Evolution & its Implications” . Dr.Tarala D.Nandedkar
Ex-Deputy Director (Sr.Grade) Emeritus Scientist (CSIR) NIRRH (ICMR), Mumbai gave a lecture
on “Nanoparticles: in vitro, in vivo and in Silico Studies”.
Mr.G.Marimuthu, Ph.D, DSC, FNA, FASc, FNASc Professor & Head, Department of Animal
Behaviour & Physiology, School of Biological Sciences, Madurai Kamaraj University, Madurai,
briefed on “Biological Clocks – An Introduction”. Prof.Kambadur Muralidhar, FNA, FNASc,
Honorary Professor, School of Life Science & Biotechnology, South Asian University, Akbar
Bhawan, Chanakyapuri, New Delhi elaborated his speeches
on “Perspectives in Molecular
Endocrinology”- I & II. Prof.K.Veluthambi, (Retd.), UGC-BSR Faculty Fellow School of
Biotechnology, Madurai Kamaraj University, Madurai spoke on “Advances in Plant Biotechnology”,
Prof.H.A.Ranganath,Ph.D,FASc,FNASc,FEAI,FNA Visiting Professor, Division of Biological
Science, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, Distinguished Professor (For Life) of University of
Mysore(Former Director, National assessment & Accreditation Council (NAAC) & Former Vice
Chancellor, Bangalore University) gave lectures on
“Biology of Telomeres” & “Basics of Stem
Cell Science” and Prof.B.G.Mulimani, Vice Chancellor, B.L.D.E.Medical University, Karnataka
spoke on “Formation of Planet Earth and Beginning of life” respectively.
There were more than 150 student beneficiaries. All speakers added aura to the lecture workshop. It
brought together all the young talents & offered an opportunity for exchange of information about
future technology. On the day of Valediction, Dr.Mrs.V.Sujatha Principal, Cauvery College for
Women, Tiruchirappalli gave the welcome address then Prof.Srinivas K.Saidapur, F.A.Sc, FNA,
FNASc, FTWAS Vice President of INSA & Former Vice Chancellor, Diamond Jubilee Professor
(for life), Dharwad, presented the valedictory address.
Mr.V.Ramanathan @ Sekar Secretary,
College Governing Council distributed the certificates to the student participants. Finally the lecture
workshop came to a close with the vote of thanks proposed by Ms.H.Abirami, Assistant Professor &
Head, Department of Biotechnology, Cauvery College for Women, Tiruchirappalli followed by
National Anthem.
