SPARK
A Great Summer Program
for Kids
Submitted by Catherine Ratliff
SPARK (Support Program of Arts and
Reading for Kids) at First Presbyterian
Church is an 8 week full day program for
youth in 1st through 8th grade. SPARK
provides interactive learning using a
developed theme that weaves through
different activities. This year’s theme is
“Mystery Detectives.” Children will learn
to problem solve in groups or individual
projects. There are weekly field trips,
swimming outings and creative projects.
SPARK is designed to help children have
an enjoyable summer experience while
retaining what they learned during the
school year. All activities are age
appropriate planned and supervised by
highly, trained staff. Volunteers often help
with special project activities.
SPARK began at First Presbyterian
Church in 1985 as a Reading and Arts
After School program to support children
attending Edgemere School. Over the past
28 years, SPARK has added a Summer
Program, Before School hours for
parents who must be at work early and an
Intersession Program during holiday and
OKC Public Schools breaks.
For more information call the SPARK
office 525-0081 or email
[email protected] or STOP BY FOR A
VISIT.
First Presbyterian Church also provides a
Pre-School for ages 6 months through Pre
K during the school year. The Pre-School
has a summer Mother’s Day Out program
including indoor/outdoor playtime and
arts and craft activities. For more
information call 525-7521.
On March 12th, the Cookbook Committee
conducted an interview at the Oklahoma
History Center with some of the women who,
in the 1960's, played important roles in what
Karren Napier calls the "Stormin' and Formin'
of the Neighborhood." Dr. Bob Blackburn,
Director of the History Center, graciously
loaned us the use of the Center's recording
studio for the interview, which will be archived
at the Center with other Heritage Hills
materials. Afterwards,
Moderator Karren
Napier, Dannie Bea Hightower, Jeannette
Gilbert Willet, Nancy Kerr, and Cookbook
Chair Lillian Yoeckel enjoyed a luncheon
prepared by Linda Adams and Trudy White at
Trudy's home. There the spirited discussion
continued, providing the Cookbook Committee
not only some lively oral history of our
neighborhood but also some delectable recipe
ideas!
THANK YOU ON BEHALF OF THE
HERITAGE HILLS ASSOCIATE
BOARD (HHAB)
The HHAB would like to thank the
homeowners who have graciously opened
their home and hosted the neighborhood
General Meetings during the past year.
