Open Streets OKC a Success!
On March 30th, over 20,000 people came to
walk and ride their bikes on NW 23rd.
Heritage Hills participated in the event by
providing information on the five HP Districts
that abut NW 23rd (Heritage Hills, Heritage
Hills East, Mesta Park, Paseo, and Jefferson
Park). There was a poster displayed that was
entitled "Neighborhoods Support Uptown 23rd"
and information and pictures about each
neighborhood were available for those
interested.

A MESSAGE FROM THE HERITAGE HILLS LONG RANGE
STRATEGY COMMITTEE
HPI is in the process of developing a long range strategic plan and we need your
input. In the coming weeks, you will receive a questionnaire designed to identify
issues of importance to Heritage Hills residents and requesting information
regarding your vision for Heritage Hills.
Strategic planning is an organization's process of defining strategy, mission, and
vision aiding in the appropriate allocation of the organization's resources. In
1969, leaders in the current Heritage Hills district formed Historical Preservation,
inc. (HPI). The goals were to enforce zoning regulations of the Historic
Preservation ordinance, build an endowment fund to carry our long range goals,
encourage the joint purchase of goods and services and enhance the quality of life. In the 1970s, HPI initiated its tree planting program and joined the Oklahoma
Chapter of American Institute of Architects to match a federal grant for the purchase
of the Overholser mansion. In the 1980s, the historic district markers and street
lamps were installed. In 2006, HPI pledged funds aiding the
renovation and preservation of Wilson Arts Integration Elementary. Since 1967,
members of HPI have assisted the Heritage Hills Associate Board in showcasing
our neighborhood during the annual home and garden tour.
In 1989, a group of residents in Heritage Hills spent several months developing
a long range strategic plan for HPI. Aspects of this 1989 plan are still relevant
today. As a new group works to update this plan, it is important to ensure all
residents of Heritage Hills have a voice in HPI's long range plan and use of
resources. Within the next few weeks, you will receive a mailing and on-line questionnaire
asking several questions about your dreams for Heritage Hills, how resources
should be allocated, and any other input you wish to give. Responses may
be handwritten and mailed to HPI or the questionnaire may be completed online. Without your input, the long range planning committee won't have an adequate
representation of Heritage Hills for its review and update of the 1989 plan. After
compiling the survey results, HPI will host a day-long strategic planning session
with 25 to 35 residents. Once this is complete, the final long range plan will be
presented to the neighborhood at the annual board of director's meeting. Again we
appreciate your input and involvement.
HNSA Member Drive
The Heritage Neighborhood Security Association (HNSA) Member
Drive will take place June 7-14th. Look for the yellow signs in yards to
show that you are a member of HNSA and support the security patrol
of our neighborhood. This service provides for an off-duty OKC police
officer to monitor our neighborhood, Mesta Park, and Heritage Hills
East. More members means the potential for 24 hour a day
monitoring. Current services are approximately 18 hours a day.
The security patrol provides home checks while you are away and is
available to answer any security concerns HNSA members may have.

Sticky Weed
Our neighbor/
gardener
Barbara
Bennett has
noticed a new
weed this year known as
Cleavers, Sticky
Willy, or the Velcro weed. This
fast spreading weed sticks to
your clothes and gloves. While
it is edible, it is a nuisance
weed that can take over
quickly. Please check your
yards and help prevent it from
taking over Heritage Hills!
