Deployment Report Create Instant Clones of SAP Business Apps in AWS Highlights • 50% Reduction in Time and Resource Requirements • Elimination of Capital Expense Use cases: Agile Dev/Test and Training, Rapid Prototyping • Increased Agility and Control An SAP implementation consultant was commissioned by CloudVelox to set up an on-premise SAP environment. The SAP environment consisted of SAP IDES EHP6 and an Oracle (11.2) backend database all running on RHEL6 servers. The multi-tier application consisted of a database instance for deploying the database, a central instance for the SAP central platform, and a presentation instance for the frontend access. The database was kept on a dedicated server, a separate system in itself mainly for performance reasons but also for security. Transactions were also conducted to produce transactional data that would simulate a production environment. The CloudVelox One Hybrid Cloud™ (OHC) platform was installed on the running SAP environment. The process of software installation on all of the systems took less than one hour and was done "live", without any service interruption. The software then initiated an automated five step cloning process, from discovery to blueprinting (operating system, networking structure, required services, app stack, app data and database data, etc.), provisioning into AWS, replication and synchronization to service initiation. The Oracle database data was integrated into the OHC platform with RMAN scripts. (Note: OHC can also integrate using Oracle Data Guard.) Once the initial replication was complete, the first clone of the SAP environment was ready to be launched in AWS. The initial synchronization took about 6 hours. From this time onward, the system continued to synchronize data from the on-premise SAP environment into AWS, and up-to-date instant clones could be launched as needed. The SAP cloned environments were validated to ensure the integrity of the cloned system. Discovery Provisioning Service Initiation 1 3 5 BENEFITS The CloudVelox cloning process represented a 50% 90%+ reduction in the time typically required by SAP implementation specialists to deploy a multi-tier SAP environment into AWS. By consolidating and automating the key cloning processes (including the extension of authentication services and synchronization between the existing environment and the new environment in the cloud), “The deployment increased agility and control, as an IT team would be able to work faster and more efficiently, without being constrained by hardware-bound processes and expenses.” 2 4 Blueprinting Syncronization Figure three: The OHC™ 5 Step Automated Process. CloudVelox reduced the time and risk of SAP deployments into AWS by up to 90%. There was also a 50%+ reduction in the time and resources required to create a Dev/Test environment in AWS, not to mention the elimination of all expenses and processes tied to acquiring and configuring more hardware. The deployment increased agility and control, as an IT team would be able to work faster and more efficiently, without being constrained by hardware-bound processes and expenses. The environment did not have to be modified in order to be deployed into AWS. Figure four: CloudVelox’s simple user interface requires no specialized cloud expertise.
