OUR HISTORY
How it Works
Competition begins on the first trading day of the year
and ends on the final trading day.
There are three distinct contests – or “classes” in which
players register:
Master Class Invitation Only. Includes many of the
world’s most renowned investors. $10,000 entry fee
Professional Class Requires a minimum of two years
investment experience. $1,000 entry fee
Novice Class Open to general public. $100 entry fee
Step 1: Choose
A fantasy portfolio of five stocks – long or short, with a
$1 billion minimum market capitalization.
Step 2: Select
A charity for which you will be competing.
Step 3: Compete
Throughout the contest year, standings are anonymous except those on the leaderboard of each class,
mitigating reputational risk for participants.
New to 2014: Trading! For an additional donation,
players can trade stocks in their portfolios.
Winners
The top three portfolios in each class win money from
the pool of entry fees for the charity of their choice.
First Place: 60%
Second Place: 30%
Third Place: 10%
Master Class Player Joel Greenblatt provided the initial
funding that allowed PwP to run a test contest for 100
friends and family starting in January 2012, raising
more than $25,000 for charity. Throughout 2012,
the management team, website, PR and support for the
organization were established. In January 2013 the first
official contest opened to the public with 416 participants, including some of the finance industry’s most
renowned investors, raising approximately $185,000 for
charity. To date PwP has raised more than $450,000.
