Exploring the COPD QualityBased Procedures Clinical Pathway:
Clinical Education Session
Wednesday, December 3, 2014
Waterloo Inn Conference Hotel
475 King Street North
Waterloo, ON N2J 2Z5
In January 2013, the Ministry of Health and
Long-Term Care (Ministry) and Health Quality
Ontario (HQO) introduced the Quality-Based
Procedures (QBP) Clinical Handbook for Chronic
Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). The
handbook utilized expert opinion and best
practice guidelines to develop a compendium
of evidence-based clinical consensus on COPD
management. Through the Health System Funding
Reform initiative, the Ministry has used QBPs to
change healthcare delivery and funding, so that
hospitals can be funded based on standardized
best practices.
and challenges associated with understanding,
implementing and evaluating performance related to
the COPD QBP. The intent is to create a community
of practice at the local regional level.
Target Audience
This event is targeted at clinicians and medical staff
involved in COPD care delivery and individuals
responsible for QBP implementation, including
respirologists, family doctors, hospitalists, emergency
medicine specialists, internists, nurses/nurse
practitioners, VPs of patient and clinical services,
decision support staff and LHIN clinical leads.
Note: This program is under review for Continuing
Medical Education (CME) Credits.
The Ontario Medical Association and the
Ontario Hospital Association are co-hosting the
delivery of a clinician-targeted education session
to support clinicians in their implementation
of the QBP clinical pathways. The goal of this
pilot education session is to provide the latest
updates on the COPD QBP; present a clinical
explanation of the QBP pathway and the evidence
used in its development; allow clinicians to share
their implementation experiences; and highlight
QBP performance indicator results for COPD.
Feedback from participants at the pilot session
on December 3, will help to shape forthcoming
regional education sessions.
This pilot session will provide a meaningful
opportunity for clinicians to give targeted
input and feedback on experiences and lessons
learned with the COPD clinical pathway. It will
enable participants to freely discuss the enablers
