This is a unique opportunity to participate in the transformation of endoscopy services led by the Cancer Screening program as we work to drive quality, accountability and innovation in the cancer system. This opportunity is open to all qualified candidates. RESPONSIBILITIES/RESPONSABILITÉS: • • • • • • • Provide strong, visionary clinical leadership at the provincial level, and co-chair and bring clinical expertise to the GI Endoscopy Quality-Based Procedure (QBP) Advisory Committee; Serve as clinical champion to the GI Endoscopy QBP and community-based clinic strategy, as well as other related initiatives (e.g., Quality Management Partnership and ColonCancerCheck); Provide clinical leadership at the provincial level across the spectrum of the GI Endoscopy QBP and community-based clinic strategy, including responding to clinical questions and representation of the clinical aspects of the QBP in the community at meetings and in the media; Establish and maintain effective links with relevant clinical communities on behalf of CCO; Develop and support execution of a strategy to engage clinicians involved in endoscopy in CCO’s quality agenda; Identify and respond to system- and program-level issues; Collaborate with the CCO’s Clinical Lead and Scientific Lead for ColonCancerCheck, and the Quality Management Partnership • • (QMP) Clinical Lead, Colonoscopy on endoscopy-related initiatives; Participate in the appointment of endoscopy professionals on CCO initiatives; and In collaboration with the Regional Vice Presidents and Clinical Lead, ColonCancerCheck, provide leadership and ongoing support for the ongoing work and quality improvement initiatives of the Regional Colorectal Screening / GI Endoscopy Leads. QUALIFICATIONS • A Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada with subspecialty training in gastroenterology or specialty training in general surgery. • Active staff appointment at a public hospital in Ontario. • Formal training in upper and lower endoscopy and related endoscopic techniques, including polypectomy. • Maintenance of expertise by performing at least 500 colonoscopies per year. If the minimum is not met, expertise in quality or research related to endoscopy may be taken into consideration. • Maintenance of expertise by performing at least 200 gastroscopies per year. If the minimum is not met, expertise in quality assurance/improvement or research related to endoscopy may be taken into consideration. • Ability to perform advanced therapeutic procedures (e.g., large polyp removal, endoscopic mucosal resection, esophageal banding) associated with gastroscopy and colonoscopy. • Knowledge of both hospital and out-of-hospital endoscopy. • Demonstrated evidence of continuing education in colonoscopy, related endoscopic techniques and colorectal cancer screening. • Enthusiasm for, and commitment to, quality improvement in GI endoscopy at the provincial/system level. • Recognized as an opinion leader within the endoscopy community. • Experience in leadership positions at provincial, regional and/or local level. • Knowledge of clinical, administrative and system issues with respect to GI endoscopy. • Ability to analyze information, make sound decisions and communicate these to clinical and non-clinical audiences. • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and ability to build consensus. • Knowledge of current and new/emerging GI endoscopy guidelines.
