Any reamining cards are not used in this game. The 12 Barn Cards are mixed up, animal side down, and each player randomly takes one. All players flip over their Barn Card to reveal their animal. Select one player to be the start player and in clockwise order, each player makes the sound of his or her animal. All players flip their Barn Cards back over so that the animals are hidden. Animals will remain hidden for the rest of the game. Quack-a-Doodle-Moo can be played with younger players by simply leaving the Barn Cards face up. For mixed ages and abilities, novice players’ animals stay hidden, face down, while experienced players’ animals are revealed, face up. Playing the Game 1. Each player picks up his or her Animal Cards and holds them face down in one hand. 2. Beginning with the start player and moving clockwise around the table, each player takes a turn flipping the top card from the cards in his or her hand to create a stack in front of that player. Cards must be flipped outward so that the card is revealed to all players at the same time. Each player's stack of cards on the table must be clearly visible to all players. 3. Play continues with each player playing one Animal Card on top of the stack in front of him or her until an Animal Card is played that matches an Animal Card already on top of another player’s stack. 4. When a match occurs, the two players with matching cards race to make the sound of the hidden animal from the other player’s Barn Card. 5. 6. 7. The first of the two players involved in the match to make the sound of the other player’s hidden animal wins that match. If a player makes the sound of the wrong animal, he or she may continuing making animal sounds. There is no penalty for making the sound of the wrong animal. The player who wins the match gives all the cards from the stack in front of him or her–not the cards in hand–to the other player involved in the match. That player takes those cards and his or her own Animal Card stack and adds both stacks of cards, face down, to the bottom of the pile in his or her hand. Play resumes with the player to the left of the last person to play an Animal Card. All other cards on the table remain where they were and play continues clockwise. Example: Player 1, who has a pig on his Barn Card, plays an owl card to his stack. Player 4, who has a duck on her Barn Card, already has an owl card on top of her stack. Since their cards match, Player 1 races to say “Quack!” before Player 4 says “Oink!” Player 1 (Pig) Player 4 (Duck) Winning the Game The first player to play all of the cards from his or her hand wins! Notes: 1. Once play begins, a player is not required to reveal his or her animal — even if other players ask, but my look at his or her own animal at any time. 2. During a match, players may use any animal sound which identifies the animal in the barn. For example, a dog could be identified by “woof,” “bow-wow,” or “arf.” 3. If a player is playing the last card from his or her cards in-hand and it results in a match, that player must win that match in order to win the game. The Advanced “Switch-er-Moo” Variation Add another level of crazy, confusion to your game! 1. At the beginning of the game pick a Barn Card that matches one of the animals in the Animal Card deck (an animal that was not removed) and place it, animal-side up, in the center of the table. 2. Whenever a match occurs where the matching animals also match the animal in the middle, the match resolves normally (as in step 4 of playing the game) and then all players pass their Barn Cards to the left so that each player has a new hidden animal! Players may look at their new hidden Animal, but must try to remember the other players’ animals. 3. Play continues as in the regular game with the players passing their Barn Cards to the left every time there is a match that also matches the animal in the center. The first player out of cards wins!
