MEDIA RELEASE 12 May 2014 FYPC_020_14 Dedicated Health Visitor receives Queen’s Nurse title Debbie Bromley, Specialist Health Visitor for Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust (LPT) has been awarded the prestigious title of Queen’s Nurse (QN) by community nursing charity The Queen’s Nursing Institute (QNI). The Queens Nurse title demonstrates a commitment to high standards of patient care, learning and leadership. Nurses who hold the title benefit from developmental workshops, bursaries, networking opportunities, and a shared professional identity. Debbie’s career has been full of innovative and outstanding practice. Since joining LPT 9 years ago as a Family Health Visitor, Debbie has: - developed a project to teach parents abdominal massage in order to improve outcomes for their disabled children with constipation; - facilitated a service development initiative to improve outcomes for families who have children with sleep issues; - developed a project over the last ten years in which mothers with post natal depression receive reflexology to address their symptoms; - developed an Early Intervention Continence training package for parents and education staff and a Sleep Management training package; and - received a Research Internship funded by the National Institute for Health Research and Health Education East Midlands to research improvements in health visitor practice. Debbie has also set up her own charity in Northamptonshire to support cancer patients and their carers – where she manages a team of 16 therapists and support workers to offer a weekly drop-in facility and complementary therapies (including home, hospice and hospital visits). Debbie Bromley said: “I am delighted that I have received the Queens Nurse title as I consider it a great privilege to have my commitment to improve standards of care recognised at a national level.” Crystal Oldman, Chief Executive of the QNI said, ‘Congratulations are due to Debbie for her success. Community nurses operate in an ever more challenging world and our role is to support them as effectively as we can.
